Blessed are those who hunger and thirsts after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6
On a hot climate, you have probably seen what appeared to be a big pool of water on the road. But as you drive near it, there is no water because it was nothing but a mirage.
If someone really thirsty is chasing a mirage, that person will be sorely disappointed. And more often than not, we've all been down that road before.
Spiritual thirst is an essential component of our human nature. As we studied during our Revival Bible Study, there is a vacuum in our souls that longs for constant spiritual infilling.
And many of times, earthly things will not just make us thirstier, it will also break our spiritual containers, which is our soul. Because our inner cisterns are designed to carry only clean water, and unrighteous water will only destroy us inwardly and eventually making our surrounding more parched.
In a world darkened by twisted standards, blessed are you when you feel sick about it. Blessed are you when you cry against injustice, oppression, and political deceits. Blessed are you when you long for fresh renewal in quiet meditations and communal worship. Blessed are you when you thirst more for reconciliation than recognition; integrity more than applause; the joy in surrender more than the pleasure in indulgence.
The benefit: you will be filled with wisdom, love, and peace. The affluent and powerful will give anything to trade with the true internal treasure you have now- clean spiritual water. In fact other people's only chance of spiritual survival is the water jug you carry at your back.
And so be strong and keep on thirsting, keep on fetching from God's well, keep dehydrated, and then continue on giving fresh water to others-especially to those who are chasing after life's false mirages.
Have a Jesus-filled week.
