CITY ORDINANCE REQUIRING ELECTRIC UPGRADES

Monday night, January 13th, Lampasas City Council reviewed the recently enacted Ordinance requiring property owners to upgrade electric service when work is done or when power is reconnected after being off.

The New Ordinance requires a main disconnect within three feet of a customer's meter and a 200 amp service to the residence. "The main disconnect has always been a requirement in the City, and with increasing electric use, the 200 amp minimum is a safety and National Electric Code compliance requirement," said Jerry Bunting, Building Inspector. Many older homes, with older electric service, are likely out of compliance, and the City is recommending upgrades be made voluntarily as soon as financially possible.

For more information, or if you would like City staff to review your electric service for possible needed upgrades, contact Jerry Bunting, Building Inspector at 512-556-6831. Please be advised that residents will only be required to perform the upgrades if power is disconnected and/or other electrical work is being done.
