County Libraries Offering Telecommuting Options During Metro SafeTrack Surge

Commuters looking to avoid commuting woes during the month-long Metro SafeTrack Surge that starts today can look to Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) for an alternative work site.  MCPL library card holders will have access to Wi-Fi internet access, quiet study rooms, and free charging stations for phones and tablets. Other resources for card holders include photocopiers, printers and laptops for use at the Kensington Park, Long Branch, Silver Spring, and Twinbrook branches. If you do not already have an MCPL card, you can get one in person by bringing proof of address in the county and a photo ID to any library.
MDOT and METRO Suggest Alternatives During SafeTrack Surge

WMATA and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation urge Metro riders to find alternative transportation during the most recent SafeTrack Surge that started Saturday. During this surge, which will run through November 22, Red Line trains will run in two segments -- Shady Grove to NoMa-Gallaudet U every six minutes and Glenmont to Fort Totten every ten minutes. Metrorail stations at Brookland-CUA and Rhode Island Ave. will be closed. Metro will run free shuttle buses to replace trains between NoMa-Gallaudet U and Fort Totten. Montgomery County Ride On will run free shuttle buses between the Silver Spring, Takoma, and Fort Totten Metrorail stations during extended rush hours. The Green/Yellow Line provides a good alternative between Fort Totten and Gallery Place.
Other alternatives include the MARC train; additional Metrobuses along key north-south routes; and Park and Ride lots at Green/Yellow Line Metrorail stations.
REMINDER - Parking Restrictions on Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road - During Metro's next SafeTrack Surge, parking on Georgia Avenue from Spring Street to the District line and on Colesville Road from Spring Street to the Transit Center will be restricted from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays. Meters have been bagged in red with signs attached to clearly indicate restricted hours. Click here for more details.
