METRO Update - SafeTrack Surge Returns, Parking to be Restricted
As METRO continues its SafeTrack repairs, the next surge to affect Silver Spring will occur from October 29 to November 22. Stations at Brookland-CUA and Rhode Island Avenue will be shut down so there will be no service between NoMa and Fort Totten during this time. Trains will run in two segments: Glenmont to Fort Totten every 10 minutes and NoMa to Shady Grove every 6 minutes. Click here for details.
Parking on Georgia Avenue from Spring Street to the District line and on Colesville Road from Spring Street to the Transit Center will be restricted from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays. Meters will be bagged. Parking will be allowed nights after 8 p.m. and all day on weekends. Click here for more details. As a result of efforts by GSSCC, Montgomery County Department of Transportation has agreed to affix large signs to the red meter bags to clearly indicate restricted hours. (During the last "surge," signs were placed on the meter poles and patrons were unable to distinguish when parking was and was not allowed.) Enhanced bus service will be operating along these streets to facilitate commuter travel during the surge. Click here for more details.
