Members Beware: Phone and Sales Scams
GSSCC has learned of two types of scams that are being attempted with businesses in the area. One involves sales reps from YP.com selling very expensive online advertising that does not produce results and is impossible to cancel because the company does not respond to phone calls or other communications. Members have told us that reps verbally promise that the program can be cancelled at any time, but later are told that they cannot cancel and are threatened with collection agencies.
In addition, Montgomery County's Office of Consumer Protection has recently released a warning regarding phony invoice scams that are targeting businesses. This link
contains further information as well as tips to help avoid falling prey to this scam. Members with questions about this or any other consumer issue may call 240-777-3636 for assistance.
