GSSCC Represents Business Concerns on New Minimum Wage Bill
The Montgomery County Council is considering Bill 12-16 that would increase the County's minimum hourly wage to $15 by 2020, and mandate indexed increases each subsequent year, based on the CPI. (Councilmembers Elrich, Hucker, Leventhal, Navarro, and Riemer are co-sponsors.) GSSCC, joined by two member small business owners, testified at the public hearing on Tuesday, June 21, along with representatives of other county business organizations and individuals. Each told the story of how this legislation will impact their businesses, their ability to hire young or less experienced individuals, to offer the same level of employee benefits, or even to effectively serve their customers. GSSCC also raised questions and concerns about how this bill will impact not only business owners, but also taxpayers and the County's economy as a whole. Read GSSCC's testimony here.

Survey Question: Post Office in Downtown Silver Spring?
Does your business need a Post Office in the downtown Silver Spring area? YES or NO
Background: The Post Office in downtown Silver Spring (on Colesville Road) was removed several years ago. It was replaced by a branch in the Spring Center on 16th Street. That location will soon be razed to make way for The Purple Line. The nearest remaining branch is on University Boulevard in Four Corners. GSSCC wants to know if your business would benefit from having a Post Office in the downtown Silver Spring area. If so, please click here, or on 'YES' above to send an email to GSSCC.

JBG commissions local and national artists to put their creativity and color into some unsuspecting places such as parking garages, building corners and sidewalk walls. The company is currently up to 25 murals throughout the DMV, and has plans to complete five more this summer. The point of the murals is to spark interest in the building or neighborhood.
