February 10: "How to Be a Good Customer"

   

The GSSCC Non-Profit Team, representatives of the many non-profit organizations that are members of the Chamber, invite all GSSCC members to a panel discussion on "How To Be A Good Customer," from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. next Tuesday, February 10, in the GSSCC Conference Room. The panel includes Chamber members Sarah Burnett, The Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC), Julie Statland, Statland & Katz, Ltd., and Charlie Atwell, Innovative Business Interiors. Panel members will discuss what it means to be a good client; and the importance of customer accountability; and using various business networks, including your GSSCC network, to your advantage. February 18:  GSSCC's New Networking Lunch
 
In response to popular request, GSSCC is pleased to present "Connect @ Lunch," an every-other-month members-only networking event that will provide opportunities for members unable to participate in the networking breakfast or the business after hours to connect with other Chamber members in a formal networking setting.  Join us for the kick-off lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, at Sergio's Ristorante (8727 Colesville Rd., on the lower level of the DoubleTree Hotel).  Cost is $25 per person and includes salad, entrée, and iced tea or coffee.  Participation is limited to the first 24 members who sign up.  Click here to log in and register.
February 26:  Young Professionals Regional Happy Hour

  

GSSCC Young Professionals will join the young professionals groups from the Gaithersburg-Germantown and Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chambers, and Leadership Montgomery's Emerging Leaders program, to host a Regional Young Professional's Group Happy Hour, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at Timpano (12021 Rockville Pike). * Hats off to Mary Ellen Flynn, Andalman & Flynn, on surviving the January 2, 2015 Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. Flynn raised more than $2,000 to raise awareness for Special Olympics and provide an opportunity for more special kids to compete.  Joining with colleagues in the Young Lawyers Section of the Maryland State Bar Association on a rainy day when the temperature was only 34 degrees, Flynn said she "kept every promise that I made:  total submersion, no cursing, and I survived!"  To see a video of her "plunge," click here.

Silver Spring "VanGo" Free Circulator Bus Hours Extended


Hours for Silver Spring's free circulator bus service have expanded. The VanGo now runs from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and until 2 a.m. on Friday. In addition, weekend service was added from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday. Buses run every 12 minutes. Previously, VanGo service ran only from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays.

Circulator stops are located at the Silver Spring Metro Station; 13th and Kennett Street; East-West Highway and Colesville Road; and Cameron Street and Georgia Avenue. For a route map and schedule, click here

 

Silver Spring Garages Get Space-Available System


The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) Division of Parking Management has installed a parking space availability system in the Wayne Avenue and Town Square parking garages. MCDOT is using the latest technology to wirelessly track the number of available parking spaces on each garage level and display the information outside every entrance and on each floor. DPS Releases Results of Permitting Fee Study

The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services has completed a study of permitting fees, in response to concerns that the Department had, in recent years, increased fees to such an extent that it was generating a substantial surplus.  A series of three briefing sessions on the study has been scheduled for this Tuesday, February 3, in the Silver Spring Civic Building. The 90-minute session begin at 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  For more information, click here.

GSSCC's Inclement Weather Policy
 

In the event of inclement weather, GSSCC follows the closing policy of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) regarding cancellation of member meetings and events. If schools are closed for the day, all Chamber events for that day will be cancelled. If schools open late, morning events before 11:30 a.m. will be cancelled; all others will be held. If schools dismiss early, all GSSCC afternoon meetings and evening events will be cancelled.
