Another Successful Pupil Enrollment Count Day for CYC!

Pupil Enrollment Count Day (PEC), formerly known as October Count Day, is an annual statewide event that falls on October 1. School funding is based on the pupil count for that day. Colorado Youth for a Change's Dropout Outreach & Recovery Program and Futures Academy work hard annually to reach out to youth who left school for various reasons and help enroll them back into a school that best fits their needs.

CYC's Educational Outreach Specialists from the Dropout Outreach Recovery Program and Futures Academy Educational Specialists received dropout lists from our partnering school districts and contacted 2000 dropouts throughout the Denver metro area. Our specialists made phone calls, arranged meetings, toured schools and helped youth complete school registration forms so they can be enrolled into school by October 1.

Overall, CYC re-engaged and re-enrolled 505 students back into schools across the metro Denver area.  This year was another great success!

Youth Success: Meet Chris

CYC Late Intervention Specialist, Christopher Young, met 17 year-old Aurora Central High School student, Chris, in the 2012 spring semester. During this time Chris was behind almost a semester worth of credits. In addition, he was failing chemistry, ditching class, and constantly getting into trouble. Christopher Young began working with Chris to help him get back on track to completing high school.
