11th Annual
Write-On Teen Literary Festival
Teen writers can submit their poetry, short stories, and/or song lyrics for our Cool Compositions Contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each category. Entry forms are available at writeon.ippl.info and at the library's Kids & Teens Ask Us Desk. The entry deadline is Oct. 22. Winners will be announced Nov. 2 during An Evening with Jason Reynolds. To prepare, teens can sharpen their writing skills at our Teen Writer's Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 7-8:30 p.m. Write-on is sponsored by The Gift of Carl Foundation.

Wanted: Coders
We are looking for professional and hobbyist coders for our first-ever {Day of Code} event on Saturday, Dec. 10. {Day of Code} is an opportunity for children, teens, and adults to learn about computer programming through an array of programs, workshops, and activities. We need volunteers to help us plan, develop, and potentially teach classes, as well as mentors to help answer questions in classes and drop-ins. Minecraft Mini-Con
Monday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Kids and teens in grades 1 and up are invited to join us for our first-ever Minecraft Mini-Con to learn about servers, mods, and more. Make personalized buttons, magnets, and other crafts to show your love for Minecraft. Build in the real world using our LEGOs and other building materials. Bring your mobile device or laptop and play along other builders. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

A rep from the Illinois Comptroller's office will discuss financial goals, budgeting, ways to cut expenses, credit history and credit score, paying off debts, and how to avoid identity theft. For those in their teens, 20s, and 30s. Register here. |
