Get Ready to Garden @ IPPL

Looking forward to planting a garden this spring? If you're ready to start your seeds inside, get the seeds you need from our Seed Library!

Our Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that members can check out to plant and grow at home. There is no charge and no obligation to return the seeds. IPPL members can check out two seed packets per visit, and each packet contains enough seeds to grow 3-5 plants.

The Seed Library is located at the entrance to the Kids & Teens Department on the second floor, but seeds are available to members of all ages - and gardening skill levels!

Under the Radar:
Ireland in Fiction

By Debbie Wordinger, Head of Adult Services

Go beyond James Joyce and Maeve Binchy with these stories, just in time for St. Patrick's Day:

The Cold Cold Ground by Adrian McKinty
Detective Sean Duffy is a Catholic cop in the largely Protestant Royal Ulster Constabulary of Northern Ireland in this gritty police procedural, first of a series.

The Country Girls by Edna O'Brien
This classic, groundbreaking novel from the early 1960s was banned by the Irish Censorship Board upon its publication. Two young girls leave their small country town for love and experiences in the big city.

An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor
First in a series, this is a gently humorous story of a fish out of water. Young, straight-as-an-arrow Barry Laverty goes as a physician's assistant to tiny, rural Ballybucklebo in Northern Ireland where he must learn to get along with his eccentric boss and the inhabitants of the village.
