Limited Services April 11-14

During the transition to our new catalog, some library services will be limited April 11-14:

You must have your library card to checkout and renew items at the library April 11-14. We will not be able to look up library card numbers by name during this time.

Also, we will not be able to issue or renew library cards April 11-14

Finally, returned items will not be able to be checked in during the transition. In fact, it will take our staff a few days to check in all of the items returned during this time. Because of this, returned items may remain on your account for several days. However, no fines will be accrued during this time and your card will not be stopped

New Online Catalog to Debut April 14

If you enjoy using the library's online catalog to find materials, you will soon have a lot more to like.

Our catalog is provided by SWAN, a network of 77 local libraries offering more than 8 million items, and the new catalog is part of SWAN's transition to a new software system.

As always, our staff will be available to assist with any questions about the changes in the catalog. We will also be offering special drop-in tutorials in our lobby to demonstrate all the features of the new catalog:

  • Tuesday, April 14, 2-4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 15, 6-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 16, 2-4 p.m.

In addition, we will have a "Quick User Guide" in print and online to help patrons get the most out of this new tool. In the meantime, to learn more about the new catalog, visit newcatalog.ippl.info.

The following are important things to know about the transition taking place April 11-14.

Update Your Library Account Before April 10

When the new catalog launches on April 14, all existing personal identification numbers (PINs) will be reset to the last four digits of the primary phone number on the account.

You may reset your PIN after April 14, but you will need a current email address on your account to do so.

Please be sure the phone number and email address on your library account are up-to-date by April 10!

To verify your information online:

  • Log in to your library account using your name, library card number, and PIN. (If you can't remember your PIN, instructions to reset it can be emailed to the address on file.)
  • In the left menu, click "Modify Email & Phone"
  • Add/edit your information
  • Click "Submit"

Please know that a staff person at any library service desk can also verify and update your information for you.

Export Your Wish Lists

If you have created Wish Lists in your SWAN account and want a copy of them, please export them (print or email) before April 10. Click here for instructions or watch the video tutorial

Please note Preferred Searches and My Ratings will not migrate to the new system. You must copy any information you want to save from these files before April 10. If you have turned on your Reading History, it will migrate to the new system without any action by you.

Catalog will be "View Only" April 11-14

During the software transition, online catalog access will be limited April 11-14.

The catalog will be in "view-only" mode, which means you will not be able to login to your account, place holds, or renew items online during this time. Staff will not be able to place holds either.

You will be able to search for titles online, but item availability will not be up-to-date during the transition. If you are using the catalog at home April 11-14, please contact the library to verify the availability of items. If items are on the shelf, we will set them aside for you.
