Library Closed

The library will be closed on Friday, March 20 for a staff development day. Our book drops will be open, and our website, www.ippl.info, is available 24/7. You can also renew and reserve materials online.

Teen Summer 
Job Fair

Teens seeking summer employment, internships, and/or volunteer opportunities should check out our Teen Summer Job Fair on Saturday, March 21. 


1-2 p.m.
A panel of managers and job coaches will give advice on how to get a job and keep it.
 

2-4 p.m.
Local businesses will be
on hand to discuss a variety of opportunities
for teens.
 

The fair is hosted by IPPL, the Darien Chamber of Commerce, and Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  


 


 

AARP Tax-Aide

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will offer tax

assistance to seniors and low-income
taxpayers through mid-April on Monday and Friday mornings. Make your appointment by calling 630/887-8760 ext. 239, or in person at the Ask Us Desk.

Netflix Added to Rokus

Not only has IPPL has added six new Roku devices for checkout, but all devices now have access to Netflix, including the latest content such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black

 

Plus new titles are added to our Rokus weekly. Our newest titles include Whiplash and Big Hero 6.

 

And don't forget: we have Family Rokus too! New family titles include Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad DayThe Book of Life; Big Hero 6The Boxtrolls; and Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League

 

Rokus allow users to stream popular movies to their TV. The devices require wireless Internet and a TV with an HDMI connection. To learn more, visit our eLibrary.

  • Novel Idea: a book club for for readers who like to delve into a book's characters, plots, setting, and themes. Drop in at the library for a librarian-led discussion on the second Wednesday of the month (September-May) at 7 p.m.

  • Crime Readers: a book club for readers who like unraveling clues, interpreting evidence, and analyzing characters. We partner with the Woodridge Public Library to bring crime readers together on the third Thursday of the month (September-May). New Catalog to Premier April 14

The countdown continues - our new online catalog will go live on April 14! 

 

Our library's catalog is provided by SWAN, a network of 77 local libraries offering more than 8 million items, and the new catalog is part of SWAN's conversion to a new software system. (Please note: SWAN will be unavailable April 11-13 during software installation.)

 

It's not too early to get ready! Most of your account information will be automatically transferred to the new catalog, such as holds, checkouts, and reading history. However, your PIN will be reset to the last four digits of the primary phone number on your account. Please see our library staff to be sure that your phone number (and other information) is up-to-date by April 10! After April 14, you may change your PIN. Visit newcatalog.ippl.info for more information.   

 

In addition, if you have created wish lists in your SWAN account and want a copy of them, please export them (print or email) before April 10. Click here for instructions

Teen Tech Week: 3D Design Challenge

Teen Tech Week is March 8-14, and we're challenging teens in grades 7-12 to design a 3D object that will make the life of a student easier. Entries will be judged on functionality, creativity, and originality. All entries that meet our 3D printer policy (go to 3dprinter.ippl.infowill be printed free of charge on the library's 3D printer. Email your questions and 3D design entries to Teen Librarian Tyler Works at tylerw@ippl.info with the subject line 3D Design Challenge. Entries are due by March 14. Winners will be announced the following week.
