3D Printing Now Available at IPPL

The library now has a 3D printer, which creates three-dimensional plastic objects from digital designs. The printer, a MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer, melts plastic filament to create paper-thin layers that build professional quality, high-resolution objects. It can be used to create everything from plastic prototypes to toys to household items. The printer was donated by the IPPL Foundation. Find out more here.

Kids and Teens and the Internet: An Important Message to Parents

Effective June 1, the library is changing its Internet policy. Children and teens of all ages will now have access to the Internet unless a parent or guardian blocks their access. (Teens ages 14 to 17 have had access, and now the library is extending that access to children ages 13 and under.)
The Internet is an essential tool for doing research. To meet the information needs of our youth, the library feels it is important to provide them with Internet access. However, the library recognizes that it is ultimately the parents' responsibility to determine when their minor children are ready for unrestricted Internet access, so we are providing parents the option to block library Internet access for their minor children. This does not block access to the library's resource databases or the educational games on our computers.
To block Internet access for a child or teen, a parent or guardian must complete an authorization form and return it to the Checkout Desk. A separate form must be completed for each child. Additional copies of this form are available at the Checkout Desk and on the library's website.

The Sound: Performer Applications Due June 7

We will host The Sound, our second annual teen music fest, on Saturday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the library. Local teens will compete for the best solo/duo and best band awards and cash prizes. A panel of judges will award prizes for the top act in each category, and a fan favorite will be chosen by text-in vote.
Performers of any style of music should apply by Saturday, June 7. Applications are available here or at the Kids & Teens Ask Us Desk. Please note that 60 percent of the group must be between the ages of 12 and 19.
Applicants must submit a demo of their music to complete their application. Applicants may submit CDs, DVDs, and flash drives with audio or video recordings, or links to their YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud or other music page. Applications will not be complete until a demo has been received. Demos not received by the June 7 deadline will not be considered.
Four solo/duo acts and four groups will be selected by IPPL's Teen Advisory Board. Acts will be notified of their acceptance into the final competition beginning June 14.
The Sound is sponsored by the Teen Advisory Board, The Gift of Carl Foundation, and the Friends of IPPL.
