    Money Smart Week FREE Presentations

    Paying for College and Cars will take place Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-8 p.m. The presentation will cover everything high school students and their parents need to know about installment loans, including car loans and student loans. Register here. 


    Inventing 101 will take place Thursday, April 10, 7-8:30 p.m. Local inventor and entrepreneur Keith E. Weber will show teens and adults how to transform an idea through making it themselves to a finished product. Register here.   
    10th Annual Big Read Continues

    This year's Big Read selection, The Longest Road: Overland in Search of America, from Key West to the Arctic Ocean by Chicago native Philip Caputo, is his record of an epic 16,000-mile journey to discover "what unites and divides a country as endlessly diverse as it is large." For a complete list of Big Read programs, click the Program Guide.

     

    Join us for Songs of Woody Guthrie: American Balladeer, Sunday, April 13, 2-3 p.m. Folk singer, storyteller, and Autoharp virtuoso Adam Miller tells the story of the man who wrote "This Land Is Your Land" through words and music. This program funded by The Friends of The Indian Prairie Public Library. Register here. 


    Walt Whitman: America's Poet, will take place Tuesday, April 15, 7-8:30 p.m. Whitman will be portrayed by R.J. Lindsey, who will share stories of Whitman's life and readings of his poetry, including his masterpiece "Leaves of Grass" and his most popular poem, "O Captain! My Captain!." Register here. 

    Celebrate National Library Week with Us! 

    Join us for An Evening with "Breakfast Queen" Ina Pinkney on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. Pinkney, a well-known Chicago restaurateur, will share memories of her popular restaurant Ina's Kitchen, which was a Chicago institution for more than 33 years until it closed on Dec. 31, 2013. She will also sign copies of her recent book, Taste Memories, which she describes as "my love letter to the people I've fed for 33 years." Register here. 

     

    On Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m., national bestselling-author Bret Nicholaus and literary agent/editor Joseph Durepos will provide Secrets to Getting Your Book Published. The presentation will include information on how to write a query letter, how to answer publishers' questions, how to market your book, and how to decide which of today's many publishing options is best for you.     Save the Date for Our 25th Birthday Party! 

    Our 25th anniversary celebration continues, and we are inviting the entire community to our grand finale Birthday Party in April. Relive the 1980's with music, games, crafts, history, and trivia. The all-ages event will take place Saturday, April 26, from 1 to 4 p.m., and refreshments will be served. Don't forget to dress to impress - 80's style!

    In 1988, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Supremes, the Drifters, Berry Gordy Jr., Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, and Les Paul 

     

    Michael Jackson set a record in 1988 for being the first solo act to have four #1 singles from the same album ("Bad")

     

    The Phantom of the Opera first opened on Broadway on January 26, 1988. In the same year, it won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Lead Actor (Michael Crawford), and Best Featured Actress (Judy Kaye).
