 Pages for All Ages

We are seeking resident participants for our Pages for All Ages
program, an intergenerational book discussion and pen pal program offered in partnership with the Rotary Club of Darien this spring.

Pages for All Ages pairs children in grades 3-6 with seniors. These reading and writing partners will choose children's books to read, then write letters to each other about the books and how they relate to their own lives. The team will then meet to share the letters and discuss the books.

The program will begin next Monday, March 10, with a meet and greet from 4-5 p.m. Subsequent meetings will take place on Monday, April 14, and Monday, May 12. Youth and adult participants must register by this Friday, March 7.

10th Annual Big Read Information

This year's Big Read selection, The Longest Road: Overland in Search of America, from Key West to the Arctic Ocean by Chicago native Philip Caputo, is his record of an epic 16,000-mile journey to discover "what unites and divides a country as endlessly diverse as it is large."  The Program Guide is now available.

We are celebrating our 25th Birthday!  Here is what was popular in Fashion when we were born:

With the birth of MTV, fashion trends took their cue from popular musicians, especially Madonna and Michael Jackson

What goes around comes around, especially in fashion. Before Kanye made them popular in 2007, Shutter Shades were all the rage in the 1980s. Other 80s sunglasses, Wayfarers and Aviators, have also made a comeback.

When Carl Sandburg called Chicago the City of Big Shoulders in 1916, he couldn't have anticipated the 1980s! Shoulder pads were very popular for men and women during this time as a means to convey a more powerful, masculine look.
