Adam Lyon from Fermi Labs will describe how a circular electromagnet that measures 50 feet in diameter will make the journey from Long Island New York to Fermilab in Batavia on Thurs., July 25 at 7 p.m.

The ring will leave New York on a barge, travel down the East Coast, around the tip of Florida, and up the Mississippi River to Lemont, where it will complete its journey on a very large truck with police escorts, where it will become the centerpiece of a new experiment called Muon g-2 (pronounced gee-minus-two). This experiment will study the properties of muons, subatomic particles that live only 2.2 millionths of a second, and its results could open the door to new realms of particle physics.
