Its Lottery Time!:

Anser is currently accepting applications for our February 19th lottery.  If you have friends, neighbors, team mates, co-workers etc. that you think would be interested to have their children attend Anser, please direct them to our website: www.ansercharterschool.org. You can also invite them to our Lottery Open House scheduled for Thursday February 5th at 6:00pm.  Full enrollment is the best predictor of Anser's success, so help us pass along the great news that now is the time to enter the lottery!  Are you on Facebook? One quick way you can help increase Anser's marketing reach is to "like" Anser Facebook posts, or even share them.  Personal referrals are the very best marketing tools, so help Anser out and "share" us with your friends!

Legislator Tour:

Two Idaho legislators, Hy Kloc and John McCrostie will be visiting Anser on Friday from 1-3 to learn more about charter schools and about Anser.  Students will give them a tour and they will get a chance to speak with some parents about the value of school choice and the things they enjoy about Anser.  Look for pictures from the tour on Facebook ( and then be sure to "Like" them!)

Fall Fund Drive Update:

We know, your thinking, didn't we finish the Fall Fund Drive? But guess what, we received some year end donations after the Fall Fund Drive had been completed and we would like to thank those families who donated.  AND we want to let you know that we greatly exceeded our $40,000 goal by raising $48,500!!!!  So thank you again to all of you who donated. And thank you to the following people who made a recent donation: Camille La Croix and Stephan Burgos, Jim and Jill Harper, Jen and Ryan Zelinsky, Natalie Miller, Peter and Barrie O'Neill, Joe and Heidi Holland, Karyn and David Hatton, and Gabriel and Emily Carnell.

Reminder on Drop off and Pick up Procedures:

Here is a quick reminder that if you have elementary students we ask that you  not get into the Drop off and Pick up Line until at least 3:10.  Junior High dismisses at 2:55 and if the pick up line is filled with cars waiting for elementary students, the line gets very backed up and junior high parents can't reach their children.

ANSER Auction Sponsorship - we need your help!

ANSER's Annual Spring Auction is the primary fundraising event for the school and we are seeking individual and business sponsors to help us underwrite the cost of this event.  If you have a grandparent who is interested in supporting their grandchildren's school or a friend who owns a local business and enjoys supporting local non-profits and schools, please send me their information and I'll add them to our list of potential sponsors for this year's event.  Event sponsors can give anywhere between $250-$1000 to support the auction, all of which is tax deductible.  It never hurts to ask!   And, of course, it's always nice to have current parents sponsor the event as well!

Please send all sponsorship questions and information to Lindsay Biedel, Auction Sponsorship Chair, at [email protected] .  Thank you for your help in making this year's auction a great success!

Next Year Kindergarten Schedule:

Kindergarten and AAYC Teachers Sarah Wilcox-Brownstein and Sarah Gorringe made a proposal to the Anser Board, which was approved, to change the way Kindergarten and AAYC are scheduled and implemented next year.  We are happy to announce that next year both Sarahs will teach AM Kindergarten, and both Sarahs will teach in the afternoon in AAYC!  This will allow all Kindergarten students to attend Anser together in the morning like we have in the past, and it will also allow us to build upon the already impressive AAYC program that Anne Moore developed and that Sarah Gorringe has beautifully run this year. This change will also allow us to accept more students who don't attend Anser, but would like their children to benefit from the rich AAYC program.   We will be sending out more information about AAYC in the near future so be on the lookout!

MC opening for the 2014-2015 school year:

Now that Michelle has left the Middle Childhood Classroom to become the Education Director next fall, it left an MC opening for the 2014-2015 school year.  Anser's hiring procedure is to always look within the organization first to see if there is a highly qualified candidate to either interview with the team and administration or interview with a broader candidate pool and go through the same process that others applying for the position would go through.  We are happy to announce that we have hired for the Middle Childhood Crew Leader position from within Anser.  Jennica Navarro will be the new Crew Leader in Middle Childhood for the 2015-2016 school year.  Jennica was a student teacher at Anser with Jennifer Trople and has been teaching math for the last several years to second and third grade students.  This year, Jennica took on the extra role of Innovation Lab Crew Leader.  Jennica has proven herself to be a highly effective teacher and a collaborative team member.  Jennica will know most of her students next year as she has either had them for math or Innovation Lab.  We are so fortunate to have her as a full time staff member in the fall.

It's time to recommit:

As required by Idaho Statute, all Anser families must complete the recommitment form by the deadline to re-enroll their students for the next academic year. Please use this link to complete your recommitment form no later than Monday February 6th, 2015. anserlottery.com/recommitment.  Please remember also that if you have siblings on the waiting list, or that will be entering kindergarten, you also need to complete an online lottery application for them.

Anser Service Team Update:

On January 27th, the Anser Service Team will be attending the Capitol Day Event during the school day!  They have been invited by the Coalition of Idaho Charter School Families and supporters of Education Choice for Idaho to represent Anser among all other charter schools in the state.  The event will feature an educational module on Basque History in Idaho, a rally on the Capitol Steps, and the opportunity to speak directly with elected officials in Boise to let them know how important the continuation of public charter is for their education.

Way to go Service Team!

Humane Society Food Drive:

The Anser junior high elective Humane Society is offering a food drive on the 15th of January.  The students will be collecting food for cats and dogs, which includes dry and wet kinds. There will be bins set up around the school. The drive will end on 21st of January. We hope that will help out dogs and cats at the Idaho Humane Society!

Thanks!

Spare the Air- Turn off your Engines:

clouds-banner.jpg
Parents, a friendly reminder to PLEASE turn off your engines when dropping off and picking up your children. Whether you are parked or in the drop off/pick-up line, if you are going to be stopped for more than 10 seconds, TURN OFF YOUR ENGINE. Idling your vehicle for more than 10 seconds uses more fuel than restarting the engine- save money, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and improve the air quality around our school by turning your engine off. As we approach winter and the associated inversions, we hope you will support this anti-idling effort at Anser and commit to improving the air that our children breathe.
