Welcome back for another great school year at Anser:

Here are a few reminders to help get the school year off to a great start.

School Day Start Times:

Elementary: Teachers meet their students on the playground at 8:10am and escort them to the classroom. Class starts at 8:15am and all students who arrive after 8:15am are tardy. If you are arriving after 8:15am please park in the front lot, and come into the building to sign your student in.

Junior High: Students are escorted into the building at 7:50am and are expected to be in their classroom by 7:55am when class starts. Junior High students who arrive after 7:55am must  enter through the front doors and be signed in by their parents.

School Day Release Times:

Elementary:   Elementary classes release at 3:15pm. Teachers escort their classes to the fence where they wait until they are picked up by their parents. Students generally arrive at the fence around 3:20pm.

Junior High:   Junior High students are released from class at 2:55pm. They wait for pick up on the playground near the Junior High entrance.

Absences:

In the event that your student is absent from school for a doctor's appointment or illness, please bring in a note from the doctor to document the absence. We encourage you to make appointments for the dentist, orthodontist etc. after school hours as often whenever possible in order to keep our attendance counts high.

Anser's lunch program is back  for another successful year!  Please be sure to fund your lunch account prior to the first day of school so your student can take advantage of our hot lunch program. The September lunch calendar is attached below. If you have any questions or need assistance with your lunch account please contact the main office.

 Welcome Back Kindergarten & AAYC:

Sarah Wilcox and Sarah Gorringe are excited to start the year in both Kindergarten and AAYC!

Kindergarten will kick off their bird expedition on September 23rd (K1) and September 24th (K2) to the Intermountain Bird Observatory. This is always a fun adventure! Students will get to see up close how ornithologists gather information on migrating song birds as well as release a feathered friend back into nature on their journey south.

I am so excited to share art experiences with Kindergarten students this year in the ANSER Arts for Young Children (AAYC) program. We will have relaxing afternoons filled with stories, art, music, friendship, and children's most important work: play. I am looking forward to getting to know each child. It is my aim to help them discover, express, and celebrate their artistic selves.

Welcome Back to Early Childhood:
The EC Team is so excited to welcome you back for another great year together! Kelly had a grand summer working hard with Idaho Core and traveling around the country to various National Parks and candy stores. Jennifer had a relaxing summer hiking the Boise Foothills and exploring Yellowstone and Grand Teton, all the while gathering great ideas about our writing program.  Jess did some super fun camping with her kids and moved her room down the hall. We are refreshed and ready to roll with our wonderful returning learning leaders and new students alike. Our first expedition will take us on a walk back in time as we learn about shelter and how it has changed over the past hundred years. Want to learn how to build a log cabin? Well get ready!
Welcome Back to Middle Childhood:

We are excited to start of year with our new crews! We will begin with a full week of community building activities in order for us to get to know each other - even though many of the students have been in the same classroom before, we are beginning with a fresh start in mind.

There are many new things that your child will be experiencing the first week of school and this year as we move into a new grade level and a new expedition - The Boise River. We may have new set ups in our room this year, we have new technology to play and learn with, we have wonderful new crew members, and many new goals to reach this year. A quote we will connect with our first week is, "Begin, be bold, and venture to be wise." - Horace.  Many wonderful things to accomplish this year...

Please look for a MC Back to School Information Packet that will be sent home Wednesday, Sept. 3rd (second day of school). We look forward to learning and working with your child this school year!

 - Heather, Nicole, and Michelle

Welcome Back to Upper Childhood:

We are so excited to begin a new school year with your family! We have an amazing year ahead; this year is full of thrilling curriculum, fun field studies, and awesome adventures. Our "Power to Change" expedition is a  combination of a few smaller case studies that connect to help your student build a broad understanding of the power of voice, government and community. These case studies include Civil Rights, Civil War, Revolutionary War and the Founding of America. To kick off our school year, this September/October we will be looking for volunteers for a few day trips. Also, this year is Upper Childhoods big four-day adventure to McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS), this will take place January 12th- 15th. Please be on the look out for more information and updates. We hope that you have had a fantastic summer and we can not wait to see you!

Welcome Back to Junior High:

Dear JH Parents -

Welcome you to a new school year at Anser Charter School.  We are all looking forward to another year of learning and adventure with our students.  As the summer comes to an end we have been preparing for our first adventure with students - the fall ropes course and camping trip in McCall that happens the week of September 15 - 19th.  Shannon and Kelly's crew will go to McCall the 15th-17th (Monday-Wednesday) and Allyson and Diane's crew will go the 17th - 19th (Wednesday-Friday).

This adventure is a truly special time for students, teachers and parents.  We find the lessons learned and challenges conquered (or not) stay with us throughout the year and help frame our discussions, our goals and our outlook.

This trip would not happen without the help of many parents.  There are a variety of ways for you to volunteer and help out with this event.  We still need a few parents to drive and chaperone for the two-day portions.  Another way to help is to lend us your camping equipment or to be part of the food committee.

The link below will take you to a signup sheet.  This is a  Google docs spreadsheet that you can access and add your own information.  Notice that there are three tabs at the bottom with the different ways to volunteer.

Clicking on the tab will take you to a brief description and a signup sheet.  A word of caution that this is a dynamic document that will save any changes you make, so be careful to not erase previous information.

 Bienvenido de nuevo! to Spanish
My name is Dani Zepplin and I am excited to be returning for my third year as Anser's Spanish teacher.  As in the past, I work closely with elementary and junior high students throughout the week.  First through sixth grade students meet with me in the Spanish room 45 minutes a week and we have fun learning new vocabulary, playing games, performing skits, and much more.  Once in seventh and eighth grade, students take Spanish A & B as a core content class and we dive deeper into reading, writing, speaking and listening to Spanish.

In addition to Spanish, I will be heading up the Anser Service Team. It is a unique opportunity for fifth through eighth graders interested in creating projects to serve the Anser and Boise communities.  Look for information in how you and your children can get involved in Service Team through team newsletters.  I look forward to connecting with new and returning families soon!

Welcome Back to Breakout Math and the Innovation Lab:

I am married to Mark Wibbels and we have two sons, Mac and Leo, who are both in college.  I began my professional career as an applications engineer (BSEE Cornell '82)  teaching workshops in the United states and Europe until 1988 when I joined the Peace Corps where I taught secondary math and Physics in Fiji.   I started at Anser as a parent in 1999, and thoroughly enjoyed watching both my boys grow up here and graduate 8th grade.  Throughout our time at Anser, I have volunteered in a variety roles, and taught part-time in technology, math and Spanish.  I completed my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from NNU in May 2014. I love living in Idaho where we have so many opportunities for outdoor fun and adventure.  I am delighted to be back at Anser working with this remarkable community of learners and looking forward to an exciting year in middle school math.

I am so excited to be back at Anser for another amazing year as a 2nd and 3rd grade math teacher. I am also exhilarated about teaching the new innovation lab for grades 1-6. In this lab students will be take a look at some of the science behind different topics. While the topics will vary from grade level to grade level, the lab focuses on inquiry based learning and will often begin with a proposed question or challenge for students to answer or think about during class. Then students will get the opportunity to build and create different items to help answer the question. The goal of this lab time will be to allow students to get excited about different aspects of science and ask different questions pertaining to the different experiments that are conducted. I am looking forward to all the discoveries that will be made!

Welcome Back to Lunch :

Our lunch program got off to a great start last year.  Thank you for your support!  We received feedback that families really appreciated the convenience of being able to choose school lunch on a day-to-day basis without needing to order well in advance.

This year we will continue to offer a main entre / peanut butter and jelly sandwich choice, only whole grains, fruit, milk, and our fabulous healthy choice salad bar every day.  One change is that we will now offer nonfat TruMoo, a chocolate milk that does not contain high fructose corn syrup, as well as 1% plain milk.  We also have some menu changes so be sure to check them out!  (Chobani Greek yogurt and creative twists on wraps and sandwiches...)

Our student meal price remains unchanged:  $2.75.  A half pint of milk may be selected a la carte for $0.50.  We will offer whole grain cheese pizza again - on Thursdays - with the option of ordering an additional piece of pizza for $1.50.  Adult & Non-Student meal price: $3.45.

You can fund your account in advance to pay for lunch using this link: https://rodlanapps.com/cgi-bin/WAV/acntview.cgi#QW5zZXI= *Remember your ID and Pin are the same 4-digit number

Another huge change is our cafeteria floor!  We are so thankful that we now have a nice, clean surface and brighter environment.  Let's encourage our students to try to use indoor voices as it may be a bit louder in there this year.
