Jr High Announcements:
Graduation Committee Meeting - We have a wonderful group of parents working on all aspects of our graduation celebration. Our next meeting is Monday April 15 at 3:30 in Kelly's room.  Keep an eye out here for announcements about graduation in the coming weeks.

8th grade Parents !!  We need your son or daughter's pictures.  We need photos of your graduate for the "Now and Then" slide show.  Please send in a current and past picture (typically a baby or toddler photo) so these can be scanned for the slide show.  Clearly mark your child's name on the back of the photo.  There is an envelope in the front office where you can drop these off.  Or you can send these to your child's crew leader.  Digital copies are even better.  You can submit these electronically to sabrinagary@gmail.com  Thanks!

Family Council:

The Family Council will be "electing" new members electronically, rather than getting people to "vote" on the playground.  Look for an electronic Affirmation of new Family Council Members coming out the week of the Fundraising Gala & Auction.  Don't be scared by the term "Election."  There is no competing or campaigning involved!

What exactly is Family Council?

Family Council is a group of approximately 14 parents, our co-Directors Suzanne Gregg & Heather Dennis, and two teachers.  We have several different committees that we serve on (class room coordinator's director, CBC committee participant, School Safety & Transportation, Library committee, Board Liaison) and then we also work together to tackle the following topics:

New Parent Orientation

Back to School Picnic

Harvest Celebration

School T-Shirt

Chili Social

School Climate and Anser Family Community

Fundraising and Funds Allocation, ie new curriculum, class room supplies

What are the commitments?

2 year term (with option for 3)

10 monthly meetings/yr (typically the 1st Wed of the month from 7-9pm)

Assistance with School Functions including set-up and take-down

So you can see, being a Family Council member is really fun and not that time consuming.  It is a great way to have one-on-one time with the administration and your children's teachers, and to lend your voice in Anser's ever-improving vision.

Please consider "running," which simply means letting current FC President, James Cryer, know that you're interested!  We would love to hear YOUR voice.

Smoothies on Tuesday:
Don't forget smoothies on Tuesday in the gym. $1.00 or bring your own cup for .50 cents.
Way to go Ian:

Anser 8th grader Ian Zaleski has been selected by the Idaho Chapter of the Special Olympics Project Unify as a Youth Leader. Ian has received this honor due to his years of volunteering with Special Olympics and the work he has done to educate our Anser community about Special Olympics. Youth leaders will attend the SONA Conference and will participate in youth-specific sessions, as well as participating in general SONA Conference sessions with other attendees. The SONA Conference will provide young people with the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills and knowledge of Special Olympics. Participating youth leaders will become adept in the skills necessary to train other young people in their schools and state to also become inclusive leaders - creating a valuable pool of high-achieving youth leaders to help activate Special Olympics at the local level.

Finally, the same youth leaders will reconvene again at the 2014 Special Olympics Youth Activation Summit, in association with the 2014 Special Olympics USA National Games, to share successes and further develop their leaderships skills, this time specifically around Unified Sports. Way to go Ian, Anser is proud of you!

Junior High Dance at Foothills School:
Foothills School will be hosting a spring dance on April 19th from 7:00 - 9:45pm, and would like to invite both Sage and ANSER 7th - 9th grade students. The dance will semi-formal, $5.00 admission, and open to 7th - 9th grade students only. An adult chaperone from each school is needed as well. Please RSVP to Piers Lamb at plamb@Foothillsschool.org if your child plans to attend or if you can chaperone.

 Special Olympics Idaho:
Special Olympics Idaho has been selected as the nonprofit beneficiary for Color Me Rad 5K on June 22, 2013 at the Ada County Fairgrounds.  We need between 150-200 volunteers to help out the race organizers. You can sign up on line at:

http://www.idso.org/public/EVENT_DETAILS.CFM?EVENT_ID=5046

If you have not heard about Color Me Rad 5K races, check out www.colormerad.com.  As white-clad participants run around Ada County Fairgrounds they'll be bombarded with color that tie-dyes their t-shirts at the same time it brightens their outlook on life. In this untimed event, the focus is purely on fun, and the fitness is an added bonus. Even better, each race benefits a local charity. After completing the 3.1-mile course, runners will declare themselves rad as they toss their own bags of color into the air; creating a display so colorful it makes the Fourth of July jealous.

6th grade girls YMCA vollyball looking for more players:

We are getting all geared up for our 2013 Spring volleyball season. Currently there are only two 6th grade girls signed up from Anser. We have combined the two Anser girls with two Amity girls to make a team of four. At this time we are trying to get a couple more players from each school so that we can keep this team together. Our league focuses on improving play through developing fundamentals. If you know volleyball inside and out or if this is your first season you are welcome in our league. To the YMCA sportsmanship is just as (if not more) important as learning how to play. We have financial assistance if needed and no one is turned away do to inability to pay. I have attached a registration form to this e-mail. Please share with any 6th graders that you think would be interested in playing some volleyball!
