Early staff decisions and changes for next school year:

It is with great sadness we report that a few Anser teachers will not be returning to Anser next year but it is with great joy we celebrate their journey toward new and exciting adventures.  Fawn Caveney, JH English Language Arts teacher, has chosen to leave Anser and is looking for other opportunities outside of teaching.  Belinda Bowler, our music extraordinaire and MC Crew Leader, will give up the classroom to work with children in the area of music and environmental issues.  Lisa Cates, ECS Director, and her husband will be packing up and moving to Alaska to explore all this great state has to offer.  Sarah Garrett, EC teacher, will be moving to Bangkok, Thailand to fulfill her dream of teaching in an international school.  Each of these ladies continue to do an amazing job at Anser and have made numerable contributions over the years; they will continue to do so until their last day...that's just who they are!

With movement, comes more movement!  Heather Banuelos will fill the MC position next year and we are very excited she will get the opportunity to have a classroom of her own.  Hiring committees will be convened within the next month or so and you can be assured as a community, positions will be filled by highly effective staff.

The start of the school day:

We have gotten questions lately about start times and tardies when students arrive at Anser. We thought it might be good to clarify when students should be at school.

For Junior High: Students are brought into the building at 7:50am. This gives them 5 minutes to get there belongings and get to class which starts at 7:55am. If a student arrives after 7:55am they are considered tardy.

For Elementary: Students are brought into the building at 8:10am, and have an 8:15am start time. If they arrive after 8:15am they are considered tardy.

We know that  everyone's clocks, cell phones, car clocks, can show a different time, so teachers do give a few minutes of grace period. The main reason we are diligent in tracking tardies is related to attendance. If your child is not in class when the teacher takes attendance they will be marked absent.  When they arrive late and are sent to get a tardy slip, this makes our front office staff aware that the student is not absent but tardy, and the attendance record is revised. This helps us make sure your child's attendance records are accurate, and it helps us insure that Anser receives all of the state funding we should get based on attendance. We ask that you sign your child in when they are tardy in order to be sure  that we know your child  was under your supervision until they arrived.

CBC still needs coordinators:

CBC still needs module coordinators for the YMCA Adventure, Bowling and Karate. All three of these require drivers and will need coordination of drivers.  If your child is involved in one of these CBCs, please consider being a coordinator or driver, we NEED parents to help make these successful.

Thank you,

Heather

CBC:  IMPORTANT INFORMATION Winter Sports

  • Send your child to school on the five Ski/SB Wednesdays with all their snow clothes in a bag or backpack. The children will be dressing at school at ~12:00 pm. Dressing for school in their long underwear, sweats, or whatever their first layer will be, will allow them to get ready in the classrooms or at their lockers and will cut down on the bathroom chaos.

  • Skis, boards, boots and poles can be dropped off in the gym on Wednesday mornings.

  • Helmets are available to rent at Bogus for $6 per week, but they cannot be reserved in advance. The easiest way to handle this is to zip the cash in your child's jacket or snowpants each week(making sure he/she knows it's there! We wouldn't say that if it hadn't happened. More than once.) and they can make the transaction. However, if you aren't confident that this will work for your child, then give the money (correct change appreciated) to Heather B. or the office and a chaperone will take care of it.
  • If your child is riding to and/or from Bogus in your or someone else's vehicle rather than on the bus, you must let Heather B. know your plans via email or written note in advance by Monday at 9am each week. Your child will have to ride the bus unless advance arrangements are made. NO LAST MINUTE CHANGES EXCEPT IN CASE OF ILLNESS.
  • If a student is staying at Bogus for ski team practice, please let Heather know that in advance.
  • Car drivers must sign out all passengers before we leave ANSER each Wednesday and before we leave Bogus after the lesson. This may seem picky, but it's only for five sessions and it will ensure there are no breakdowns in communication. A special sign-out sheet will be located at the office area each Wednesday.

  • You'll be hungry after the lesson so an après-ski snack needs to come from home(no Bogus food purchases allowed). Non-messy food please- no popcorn or little stuff that is disgusting to clean up from the floor of the bus. Apples, sandwiches, or granola/snack bars are good choices, along with a water bottle.  Please avoid peanut products as we have students with peanut allergies in the school who will be on the bus.

BALANCE OF FEE'S ARE DUE BEFORE NEXT WEEK

ELECTIVES - PRE-SKI PREPARATIONS:

  • Bring all your snow clothes in a bag or backpack to school on the five Ski/SB Thursdays. You will be dressing at school ~12:15 pm. Don't forget to pack a hat, gloves, snack and any other essentials.  Students renting gear at Bogus should have snow boots to wear for the walk from the bus to the rental shop.

  • Skis, boards, boots and poles can be dropped off in the gym on Thursday mornings.

  • Helmets are available to rent at Bogus for $6 per week, but they cannot be reserved in advance. The easiest way to handle this is to bring cash (zip it in your jacket or pants the night before so you don't leave it on the bus by mistake). Parents can also give the money to Heather or Angie/Denise in the front office in advance (correct change appreciated).

  • Parents- If your child is riding to and/or from Bogus in your or someone else's vehicle rather than on the bus, you must let Heather B. know your plans via email or written note in advance by Monday at 9 am each week. Your child will have to ride the bus unless advance arrangements are made. A sample notification/permission slip is attached - fill out and turn in to the office. NO LAST MINUTE CHANGES EXCEPT IN CASE OF ILLNESS.

  • Car drivers must sign out their students with Jennifer Clayton after lessons. THIS IS IMPORTANT!  Obviously, up at Bogus we must keep very careful track of the students. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD OR ANYONE ELSE'S UNLESS YOU FOLLOW THE ABOVE SIMPLE PROCEDURE!

  • We anticipate being back at ANSER at approximately 4:50 pm. You will be able to go back into the school to pick up clothing, homework, etc.

  • If a student is staying at Bogus for ski team practice, please let Heather know that in advance.

BALANCE OF FEE'S ARE DUE BEFORE NEXT WEEK

Anser ECS Crew is seeking help:

Years ago, there was a drive for phonebooks to put in the Tech Lab for our youngers, as there are only big chairs in there for them to sit at, and this group of little ones need to be able to plant their feet while working.  We asked for the large phonebooks to duct tape together as footstools for that room, and over the last couple of years with the growth they have been misplaced or lost.  We need to replace this vital tool for our media room, so the drive for phonebooks is back on!

It takes 2-3 phone books to make one footstool if we use the 2-3 inch thick variety.  If you have any of these lying around your home and want to give them to a good cause, or would like to donate regular footstools for our young generation of learners,  please send them to ANSER for the ECS crew!

We are also in need of some rocker boards for our classroom toolboxes! These are a necessity to our learning environment in our classrooms.  They are so easy to make, and the kids love the ones that are made out of old skateboard decks.  If you or someone you know would be willing to donate these hot ticket items to our classrooms, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Registration for 9th Grade:

It is that time of year, where with excitement and  sadness too  we prepare our 8th graders for their flight from Anser. February is registration month at local junior high schools and 8th grade parents should contact the school their child will attend to start the registration process. We suggest that you call the counselor of the school your child will attend in January to see when registration for incoming 9th graders occur. Due to a very large class of students planning to attend Hillside next year, Hillside has requested that they come to Anser to register our students all at once. That registration will occur at 7:50am on Tuesday February 19th at Anser. This means Hillside bound students will need to get to school a little bit early that day. Parents are welcome to attend.
