Please accept the thanks of all Anser staff for helping us fill the funding gap and insuring we can provide our students everything they need! Congratulations to Gregg Burrington and Alice Antonioli who were the winners of a Create Common Good gift certificate and to Shaun and Jennifer Howell won a great wireless HP printer!!! | Changes coming to Anser Procedures:
| | |
Some changes related to how students are picked up by families are on the horizon. Discussion had been occurring about changes to improve safety and with the tragic events that have recently occurred those discussions have broadened to include a variety of measures that can be taken to insure our students, staff and parents are always safe. We have always asked that parents sign in when they enter the building. We have placed signs in the front lobby as a reminder and we ask that you help us by signing in each time you enter. Suzanne and Heather will be in communication with Family Council over the Winter Break regarding these changes and communication with families about the changes will happen after we return from the break. We have received suggestions and tremendous support from many parents. Thank you for kind words and encouragement as we work through these changes.

 | CBC: Diversity and Inclusivity
| | |
An important CBC and Electives form is coming home with your student today on golden paper. This form will need to be signed by both a parent or guardian and the student and returned to Anser by Tuesday January 8th in order for students to participate in CBC and Electives the week following winter break. You can also access this form via the Anser website at the link below:
ansercharterschool.org
CBC is still in need of Module Coordinators for the Plantation Place Module, Diversity through the Movies Module (which is parent facilitated), and the Friendship Dolls Module (which is parent facilitated). We will not be able to run these modules without parents who are willing to coordinate and teach. If you are available and your child is in one of these modules, please email Heather Banuelos ASAP and she will get you the curriculum or information needed to be a module coordinator. hbanuelos@ansercharterschool.org Back To Top |

Talking with your children about Sandy Hook:
| |
At school we are hearing many conversations among our students about the events that occurred at Sandy Hook. In order to help you support your children during these difficult conversations we are providing the information we received below. We hope it is helpful to our families. Mental Health America has developed guidelines to help Americans respond and cope with tragic events, which can be found at www.mentalhealthamerica.net/go/information/get-info/coping-with-disaster. To guide discussions about the shooting, Mental Health America offers the following suggestions for parents as they communicate with young people in the area and across the nation: - Talk honestly about the incident, without graphic detail, and share some of your own feelings about it.
- Encourage young people to talk about their concerns and to express their feelings, and validate the young person's feelings and concerns.
- Limit television viewing. It can be difficult to process the images and messages in news reports.
- Recognize what may be behind a young person's behavior. They may minimize their concerns outwardly, but may become argumentative, withdrawn or allow their school performance to decline.
- Keep the dialogue going even after media coverage subsides. Continue to talk about feelings and discuss actions being taken to make schools and communities safer.
- Seek help when necessary. If you are worried about a young person's reaction or have ongoing concerns about his/her behavior or emotions, contact a mental health professional at their school or at your community mental health center. Your local Mental Health America Affiliate can direct you to resources in your community.

VIDEO
We're working on a video playback method which minimizes switching of devices between clips and ensures compatibility with our projector. The current plan is to collect the video clips in a shared Dropbox folder and play them all back from the same laptop. We should be able to handle the major computer video formats - .mpg, .avi, .wmv, and .mov (QuickTime) - so please save your finished clip as one of those if possible. Files will need to be uploaded by the Monday morning before Talent Wednesday so we can verify that they'll work with the playback laptop. If you plan to share your talent via video, please have a parent contact me to discuss the details by no later then Monday, Jan 7, 2013
Thanks for choosing to share your talent with the Anser community, and thanks for taking the time to consider these performance guidelines. Adequate preparation on your part will help ensure that the show runs smoothly and that every student gets a fair share of the available performance time. It will also help us help you perform your best!
