Fall Fund Drive: RESTORE ANSER!

Fall Fund Drive: Restore Anser!

We have jumped over the $42,500 and are so close to our $45,000 goal! If you haven't donated, now is the time to help us insure we meet our goal. Do you have a kindergarten student who has made a bird foot out of clay? Do you have an EC student who enjoyed their adventure trip? Do you have an MC student who is enjoying reflecting in their journal on river walks? Maybe you have a UC student who is reading a great Lit Circle book or a JH student who enjoyed their recent dissection activity. All of those activities are made possible by your donation to the Fall Fund Drive which provides the funds for the learning opportunities you value at Anser. Please give now to insure all of these activities are available to your child an all of Anser's students in the future.

Thank you to the following families for their donations to the Fall Fund Drive: Fran Allans and Doug Roloff, Kris and Joe Samer, Robert and Eileen Spanbauer, Stephanie Bonney and Chris Duncan, Gene Cathcart, Ted and Giselle Isbell, Margaret Mulhern and Greg Martinez, and Jen and Ryan Zelinsky.

Drop off/Pick up Reminders for this week:

The crossing guards are working extra hard to teach our students about street safety. Help us teach your children how to be safe by observing the following rules and discussing them with your children:

  1. 1.       When the cross guard is helping you cross on the street, wait on the curb until she is in the middle of the road, and has given you the hand signal to proceed.
  2. 2.       Walking onto the playground from sidewalk? Please don't walk across the pick up line. Walk to the South exit of the pick up line, wait for the crossing guard to guide you across the exit and walk behind the red curbing to enter the playground.

Talent Wednesday:

Even though Talent Wednesday is over a month away (January 9; it is time for students to be thinking about their talents in order to have time to practice and perfect their performances.  The school will be sending sign-up information out in the next several weeks through Sign-up Genius, the same sign up system that is being used for Student-Led Conferences.  This is a new way to sign up for Talent Wednesday that we will pilot this first Talent Wednesday.  You and your child/ren should be thinking of the kind of performance he/she would like to do so that when the sign-up information comes out, he/she will be ready to inform us of the talent they will be performing.  We look forward to an entertaining and spectacular first Talent Wednesday of the New Year!

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!

It's sign-up time for the Mountain Sports elective. Students are encouraged to participate since

mountain sports are such great "fitness for life" activities.

Because of the large percentage of students who are expected to participate, we ask

snowboarders and skiers to register ahead of the other elective programs so that planning can

be facilitated for students choosing not to participate in mountain sports. The other elective

options will be provided in January.

WHAT IT IS:

The program will cover five weeks for both JH and CBC in Feb and March. Parents need to take

note that Bogus-bound students will not be back at school for afternoon pick-up until ~5:00 pm

on Wednesdays and Thursdays during this CBC/elective.

Ski and snowboard program fees are detailed on the "Life Sports" registration page. The

program costs cover bus transportation between ANSER and Bogus Basin, lessons from Bogus

Basin instructors, lift tickets, and equipment rental (optional). Students can select between

downhill (alpine) skiing, snowboarding, or cross-country (nordic) skiing.

CHAPERONES:

Parent chaperones are needed!!!! No special skiing ability required, but free lift tickets, free

rental equipment, and ~90 minutes of blissful skiing or lodge solitude are available for a few

adults who can ride the bus and help the students before and after class (time commitment

is from noon to 5 pm on Elective days). Sign up on the last page.

Registration forms are due Monday, December 17th with fee checks attached. Registration

fees for siblings can be combined in one check, but please fill out a separate form for each

student. Payment in installments is available, but a $45 down payment is required with each

registration form. If your child's rental status may change after Dec. 25th (wink, wink) go ahead

and sign them up for the rental now so we have all the info required. You can easily change to

non-renting after the holidays with an email to Heather or Sarah.

Questions? Contact Heather Banuelos (426-9840)

or Sarah Stine (336-8816 or

A Brick on the Wall Fundraiser:

The Rose Beal Legacy Garden is a project that is near and dear to the JH. Both the Human Rights Center and Rose have played a huge role in our expeditions and our education as human beings over the years.

During WWII, the only piece of nature Ann Frank could see out of her attic window during the Holocaust was a chestnut tree. That chestnut tree was sadly infected and had to be cut down a few years ago, but luckily they were able to save 100 seeds. From those seeds they grew saplings, and six of those have been sent to the U.S. One is going to be planted in the Ann Frank Memorial in the new Rose Beal Garden. All schools in Boise who raise $300 or more get their name carved into one of the new bricks being installed around the Garden.

Anser Charter School is taking part in this fundraiser and everyone who donates a dollar gets their name put on a paper brick. Our goal is to cover the gym wall with hundreds of brick! Our bricks will be for sale, $1 for per brick, in the gym during lunch and outside after school for the next two weeks.

We have gone around to each class to give an in depth description of what we are trying to accomplish. Please help us by buying a brick or two or five to keep the memory of Ann Frank alive and to honor a woman who has given us so much, Rose Beal.

Winter Weather Closures:

Anser follows the same Adverse Weather closure guidelines as the Boise School District. It there is bad weather and Boise School District closes school, Anser will also close school. We will attempt to send out an email letting families know, or will put a notice on the Anser website, but the most reliable source for determining if school will be open during bad winter weather will be to watch the local news in the morning before schools starts to see if the Boise School District has announced a school closure due to weather.
