Fall Fund Drive: RESTORE ANSER!

Restore Anser!

Every day at Anser we are able to see the amazing things that happen when parents and teachers come together. Students are engaged in deep, meaningful learning. Their curiosity is encouraged, their perseverance supported and opportunities are given to become not only strong scholars, but people of strong character. Please join us in providing our teachers and our students all of the tools they need to keep these opportunities available and the Anser program strong. Join with your fellow Anser parents and Anser staff who have donated to the Fall Fund Drive. We have raised just under $40,000, so our $45,000 goal is within reach!  But we are running out of time, so make your monthly pledge or donation today!  Thank you to the following families who have donated to the Fall Fund Drive: Michael Mercy, Jack and Jan Scripps, Melissa Frasier and Raul Garcia, Karen Drew, M.A. Goldy, Rena and Tony Kerfoot, Julie and Breck Seineger, Jim and Nicole Pape, Phil and Nancy Perry, Pete Brooks and Leslie Madsen-Brooks, Rick and Staci Darmody and Lisa and Roger Cates.

Talent Wednesday:

Even though Talent Wednesday is over a month away (January 9; it is time for students to be thinking about their talents in order to have time to practice and perfect their performances.  The school will be sending sign-up information out in the next several weeks through Sign-up Genius, the same sign up system that is being used for Student-Led Conferences.  This is a new way to sign up for Talent Wednesday that we will pilot this first Talent Wednesday.  You and your child/ren should be thinking of the kind of performance he/she would like to do so that when the sign-up information comes out, he/she will be ready to inform us of the talent they will be performing.  We look forward to an entertaining and spectacular first Talent Wednesday of the New Year!

Winter Weather Closures:

Anser follows the same Adverse Weather closure guidelines as the Boise School District. It there is bad weather and Boise School District closes school, Anser will also close school. We will attempt to send out an email letting families know, or will put a notice on the Anser website, but the most reliable source for determining if school will be open during bad winter weather will be to watch the local news in the morning before schools starts to see if the Boise School District has announced a school closure due to weather.

SAVE THE DATE:

"FUNDING OUR FUTURE"

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 26th 2013.  It's never too early to start planning for ANSER's annual spring event.  We are happy to announce that this year's theme is Funding Our Future! and will be held just down the street at The Riverside Hotel on Chinden Boulevard.

We are making some very exciting changes this year including our first-ever online auction, important auction links on the ANSER website, and online ticket sales.  We are also seeking community partners to help us underwrite the event.  We are asking our ANSER community to help recruit supporters for the auction.  If you know anyone who would be interested in supporting a great cause while promoting their business, please present them with the sponsor request letter.  ANSER families live and work all over the Treasure Valley, so word of mouth promotions are far-reaching.

To find more information about this year's auction, please go to the "What's Happening" link on ANSER's website.  If you have any questions or would be interested in helping out with the auction, contact one of the three auction chairs.

A Brick on the Wall Fundraiser:

The Rose Beal Legacy Garden is a project that is near and dear to the JH. Both the Human Rights Center and Rose have played a huge role in our expeditions and our education as human beings over the years.

During WWII, the only piece of nature Ann Frank could see out of her attic window during the Holocaust was a chestnut tree. That chestnut tree was sadly infected and had to be cut down a few years ago, but luckily they were able to save 100 seeds. From those seeds they grew saplings, and six of those have been sent to the U.S. One is going to be planted in the Ann Frank Memorial in the new Rose Beal Garden. All schools in Boise who raise $300 or more get their name carved into one of the new bricks being installed around the Garden.

Anser Charter School is taking part in this fundraiser and everyone who donates a dollar gets their name put on a paper brick. Our goal is to cover the gym wall with hundreds of brick! Our bricks will be for sale, $1 for per brick, in the gym during lunch and outside after school for the next two weeks.

We have gone around to each class to give an in depth description of what we are trying to accomplish. Please help us by buying a brick or two or five to keep the memory of Ann Frank alive and to honor a woman who has given us so much, Rose Beal.

Parents here is a link for you to learn more about the Common Core Standards:
In June 2009, Idaho joined 47 other states, two territories and the District of Columbia in committing to develop a common core of state standards for proficiency in English-language arts and mathematics for grades K-12. The Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is a voluntary, state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so they will graduate from high school able to succeed beyond high school in post-secondary education and the workforce. The standards:  http://www.sde.idaho.gov/site/common/
  • Are aligned with college and workforce expectations;
  • Are clear, understandable, and consistent;
  • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
  • Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;
  • Are informed by standards in other top performing countries, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and
  • Are evidence-based.
