Congratulations to Matt and Dana Kelly, Kurt Kallmeyer and Greg and Hamilton Sutton for donating to the Fall Fund Drive and being our lucky winners! Haven't got your donation in yet? Don't worry we will be doing more drawings so get your donation in soon! We are making really great progress and have hit $34,000 in donations toward our $45,000 goal! But we need the help of all of our families to make it to the finish line. If you haven't yet donated, please consider making a yearlong pledge or donation today. All of Anser's students will thank you! Thank you to following families for their donations to the Fall Fund Drive: Tom and Mariella Hogan, Jim and Jill Harper, Jay and Emily Morgan, Cindy and Tim Fox, Scott and Catrina Thomas and Tara and Scott Arellano.

 | Did you notice the parking changes?
| | |
ACHD put up new signs along the drop off and pick up line on 42nd St. Most of that area has been changed from "No Parking" to "10 minute Loading and Unloading."The two parking spots that used to be available right by the crosswalk have been designated as "No Parking." Please be sure you are paying attention to the new signs when you park on 42nd St. and as always we hope you will be courteous and refrain from parking in the lots of our neighbors at Grasmick, Mike's Stone, UPS and Johnny on the Spot.

 | CBC NEEDS YOU!
| | |
Do you love to scrapbook and get excited about seeing student work come to life in a scrapbook page? Then save the date for Wednesday, December 12th during CBC time for our first scrap booking day of the year! If you have done CBC scrap booking before or never have, and are interested, please email hbanuelos@ansercharterschool.org to sign up!
CBC Service Session begins on November 7th and lasts 4 weeks, ending on December 5th. No CBC the week of Thanksgiving. A special service introduction will occur on Wednesday the 31st of October in the gym from 2-3 pm. This will give your child a brief introduction to the community partner/module they will be working with. The module lists are posted on the CBC board in the main hallway. This session is HIGHLY dependent on parents who are willing to drive and chaperone each week. Be on the lookout for emails from module coordinators this week!

 | Hello Anser Moms!
| | |
Well, it's that time of the year when we begin thinking about our annual holiday party. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 5th at Bardenay. Sadly our delightful party planner, Peggy Miller, passed away this summer. Knowing that we could never recreate her wonderful event, we would like to continue this holiday tradition with a few changes. With everyone's schedules so hectic, we will be having just drinks and appetizers, not dinner. Guests will be responsible for their own bar tab. I will arrange for the appetizers and ask for each guest to contribute 5.00 towards the cost. Also, instead of the gift exchange, we would like to ask participants to bring an unwrapped gift or donation for Toys for Tots in memory of Peggy and Anser mom Deana Chandler. We hope to have this Anser Memorial Toys for Tots Drive become an annual tradition. There is room for the first 30 people who respond. Please note that this is not an Anser sponsored event. Contact me (Becky Delana) at bdelana@ansercharterschool.org, or call 426-9840, if you plan to attend or if you have any questions.

 | Math Night for Parents
| | |
Parents are in for a treat the evening of November 15 beginning at 6:30. Dr. Jonathan Brendefer, a Boise State University professor, who started the Developing Mathematical Thinking (DMT) project will be our guest speaker. The DMT Project was started in 2004. The project orginally partnered with three schools in the Boise, Caldwell, and Emmett communities of southwestern Idaho and is now an excepted way of teaching mathematics in the state of Idaho. In fact, every teacher who becomes certified in Idaho must take the class for certification. Parents will have an opportunity to listen to Dr. Brendefer, ask questions, then go into their child's classroom to learn about Anser's math program and to experience some of the ways in which we "do math" at Anser.
This is something you do not want to miss!

 | Anser teachers receive grants!
| | |
UC Teacher Dolly Higgins worked with BSU Literacy Professor Maggie Chase to write a grant to receive 20 iPads for use in her classroom. And guess what? Her grant was successful! As soon as BSU makes the purchase of the iPads watch for all of the exciting ways Dolly puts these great tools to work in her classroom. And PE Teacher Alyssa Munch wrote a successful grant to buy a Wii for use in PE classes and a smoothie maker. Once preparations are made fresh healthy smoothies will be sold to help support our library and to offset the expense of offering a free and reduce lunch program. Congratulations to these two teachers for writing grants that will be of benefit to our students!

 | The Anser Library: | | |
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated books for our library. We have had such an amazing response. I would like to now move into the second phase...graphic novels! The website for graphic novel donations is up and running. If you are interested in donating go to http://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/1588861 you can donate as little or as much as you want toward the preselected graphic novels for our library. If you choose to donate make sure you enter INSPIRE in the coupon section during checkout. This is a promotion that donorschoose is doing for one week. By entering INSPIRE they will match each donation dollar for dollar. So if you donate $5, donorschoose will match it to make it a $10 donation. For now I am putting the library book donations on hold. I need to catch up on getting these books on our shelves. If you have any questions please contact Bekkie at bekkier@msn.com.

 | Holiday Card Contest:
| | |
Each year, the State Department of Education sponsors a Holiday Card contest to draw attention to art programs in Idaho's elementary schools. One drawing is selected for the Department's holiday greeting card. The child who submits the selected artwork receives cards for his or her own use. The winning entry for each grade also receives a certificate.
This art contest is a very special tradition here at the State Department of Education, and we all look forward to continuing the tradition this year and seeing examples of elementary school children's art on display. The following lists some considerations:
1. The contest is open to public school students in grades K-6.
2. Drawings should reflect winter scenes in Idaho appropriate for seasonal correspondence, and should not include copyrighted images such as Garfield the Cat, Bugs Bunny, Digimon characters, etc.
3. Drawings should be on 8.5" by 11" paper in a landscape format.
4. Drawings must be properly labeled. Write the name of the student, the student's grade, district, school, and the teacher's name on the back of the artwork. Please make sure this information is legible. (If you submit multiple grade levels, please keep the entries for each grade level separate.)
5. Students may use as many colors as they wish in their drawings and may use watercolors, colored paper, magic markers, crayons, or some combination. Students are encouraged to completely fill the page but keep the design simple. Too many details tend to get lost in the design. Bold colors work best for the printing process. Please note: Fabric designs and pencil drawings are not suitable to our printing process and will not be selected.
6. Students must be advised that entry into this contest constitutes (1) a waiver of all copyrights students have in their entries, and (2) permission to republish entries without compensation.
7. Drawings will not be returned.
8. The winning entries from each grade level will be published on the Idaho State Department of Education Web site at www.sde.idaho.gov.
9. Submissions must be postmarked by Friday, November 9, 2012. Results will be announced in December. Drawings may be mailed to:
State Department of Education
Attn: Portia Flynn P.O. Box 83720
Boise, ID 83720-0027
If you have questions, please contact Portia Flynn at (208) 332-6812 or pflynn@sde.idaho.gov.
