Greetings from the College Counseling Office

All the hard work that everyone: students, teachers, and parents has devoted to getting the seniors ready for college is starting to pay off. To date, every BASIS Chandler student has received an offer of admission to a college or university, and several students have received multiple offers of admission. We are looking forward to more incredible results in the coming weeks and will keep you posted as we go. For now, please take a look at the colleges that have already accepted students from BASIS Chandler.

Juniors should be turning their attention to the SAT and ACT. It is our suggestion that students take both of these tests as they assess slightly different skills. Remember, many colleges SuperScore, so we recommend taking the SAT at least two times before applying to any college or university. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me at robert.bowley@basischandler.org.

The yearbook club needs the Senior's baby pictures (age 2-5ish) so that we can add them to the yearbook.  Their identities are going to be hidden on another page so that everyone has to guess who is who.  Please email a photo to Mrs. Kirk marina.kirk@basischandler.org.

Get to know Mr. Sterbenz

If you could teach a different subject, what would it be?

I would teach Latin. I would probably have to learn Latin first. Once I learned some Latin, my students and I could spend entire class periods doing things like eating food, throwing balls at each other, and playing with flashlights in the dark... In all seriousness, I am always amazed by how much our Latin students (and teachers) know. Understanding that language is so valuable to our students, and I would love to be able to explore it with them.

If you could be one for just 24 hours, what cereal box cartoon character would you be? Why?

Can I be the guy on the Quaker Oats canister? I really like his hat and white hair, and I always thought he looked like a nice person.

What do you consider to be the most valuable thing you own: when you were a child/teenager/now?

As a teenager, my most valuable possession was pooka shell necklace. It went really well with my bleached hair. These days, I really value my Bodum Chambord French press; it plays a major role in allowing me to make it through the day after spending the night awake with my new son Henry.

What was the weirdest food you've ever eaten?

I don't eat weird things!

If you could spend 15 minutes with any person dead or alive, who would it be  and why?

I think I would hang out with Steve Irwin. I love animals, and I love crazy stories, and I love Australian accents. I would be super excited to hear some crazy stories about animals from a guy with an Australian accent.
