Academic Decathlon
The Bobcats are proud to announce our participation in the National Academic Decathlon. The Academic Decathlon is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in ten categories:
Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech.
Winning teams advance through the local, regional, and state levels of competition. The state champions compete at the national finals. A team consists of nine full-time students from the ninth through twelfth grades. Each team is made up of three Honor students, three Scholastic students, and three Varsity students in accordance with the following grade point average definitions:
Honor: 3.750 - 4.00 GPA
Scholastic: 3.000 - 3.749 GPA
Varsity: 0.00 - 2.999 GPA
Each team member competes in all ten events of the Decathlon and is eligible for individual medals in all ten events.
We are looking for students of all GPAs. Remember students only compete against other students with similar GPAs. We are especially in need of Scholastic and Varsity students. This is a great opportunity for students to experience the thrill of competition and participate in an activity that can distinguish a student from the rest when seeking admittance to college.
The theme of next year's competition is World War I.
