Varsity Boys Basketball Recap |
The BASIS Chandler Bobcats Boys' Varsity Basketball Team rattled off two consecutive wins defeating Phoenix Collegiate Academy 44-15 last Friday and LFPA-Gilbert 44-20 on Monday. The Bobcats improved to 2-1 on the season, having already matched its win total from last year.
BASIS Chandler employed a smothering press defense to jump out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter against Phoenix Collegiate Academy. The Bobcats were led by junior captains Suraag Achrekar and Rish Khari who each scored 10 points in the victory. Eighth-grader Abhiram Tadepalli and sophomore Saif Khan served defensive catalysis off the bench while fellow classmate Brennan Zhou netted his first varsity points of his career.
The Bobcats then hosted LFPA-Gilbert in its home opener, Monday, at Inspire Courts in Gilbert. Despite getting off to a slow start, BASIS grabbed a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. The offense stalled in the second and third quarter, but the team was sparked by efforts off the bench from juniors Pavan Shah and Nikhil Singh along with Khan and fellow sophomore Ankur Garg. Offensively, Achrekar and Khari led BASIS in scoring, pouring in 16 and 11 points respectively.
BASIS Chandler hits the road next week for two tough matchups against Desert Pointe Academy and conference rival AZ Compass. |

BASIS Chandler American Red Cross Club |
The holidays are upon us, which means it's time to buy presents!
BASIS Chandler American Red Cross Club (BCARC) is kick-starting its community service initiative by supporting the Toys for Tots organization. Established by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, this charity annually collects and distributes toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season. BCARC is helping Toys for Tots to make sure that as many children in the East Valley receive toys.
The drive starts on Friday, December 7, and concludes on December 21. Toys for Tots boxes are set up in the front lobby, and we ask for your help!
If you would like to donate a gift, we ask that you bring new, unwrapped and appropriate gifts (no Nerf guns, toy weapons, or glass items).
If you have any questions, you can visit the Toys for Tots website (http://www.toysfortots.org/Default.aspx), or reach out to any of our BCARC members for assistance.
Happy Holidays from the BASIS Chandler American Red Cross Club! |
Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School Program Informational Session |
On Wednesday, December 12th at 5:30 a representative from Phillips Exeter Academy will be giving a presentation to BASIS Chandler about this wonderful opportunity.
This is what the Phillips Exeter Academy website has to say about this program:
Every summer Phillips Exeter Academy welcomes to campus more than 780 students for five weeks of academic study, athletics, and exploration that carry participants far beyond the classrooms and the playing fields. Typically, students come to us from more than 40 states, Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., and 45 foreign nations. Summer School students come from a variety of schools. Most reside in campus dormitories; others travel daily from their homes in the New Hampshire seacoast area. Together they embody a rich diversity of language, culture, religion, and race. They come to Exeter with that particular mix of intellectual curiosity and adventurous spirit that holds the promise of glimpsing new horizons and making new discoveries.
If you are a serious student, intellectually curious, creative, eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities, then Phillips Exeter Academy Summer School may be a program for you.
