Aloha from PacIOOS,
If the past month is any indication, 2013 will be an extremely busy and exciting time for PacIOOS.  Below are several of the new developments within our program that we think stakeholders will be interested in learning about.  Please check out our website for more information.

Upcoming PacIOOS Webinar on Coastal Hazards Data, Tools, and Forecasts on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at 2:00 PM (HST)
wave run up forecast
Example forecast for wave run up in Waikiki
Learn about some of the exciting and extremely useful coastal hazards data, tools, and forecasts PacIOOS offers. University of Hawai'i experts will explain how to access and read data from our PacIOOS wave buoys and data plots, wave forecasts, high sea level forecasts, and wave run up forecasts. Webinar participants will also have the opportunity to be the first to provide feedback on new ways to get data and forecast updates from PacIOOS. PacIOOS Strategic Operational Plan
PacIOOS Strategic Operational Plan
The PacIOOS Governing Council has approved the PacIOOS Strategic Operational Plan for 2013-2018. This document outlines the program's goals, objectives, and action items within each of our focus areas for the next five years. Information provided during hundreds of meetings and consultations with partners and stakeholders over the past six years informed the development of these priorities. The Plan demonstrates a continued commitment to a process that builds and sustains a resilient observing system throughout the Pacific for the coming years.
New PacIOOS Wave Buoy Pages
New Wave Buoy Pages on PacIOOS Website
Users can now easily access the latest real-time data (for the past 24 hours) from PacIOOS' eleven directional wave buoys across the Pacific in table or graph formats.  In addition, directional spectrum plots depict the direction from which the most energetic waves propagate as a function of wave period.  A WaveWatch III model output shows forecasts (7 days out) of wave conditions associated with different wave events.  Click here to go to the main landing page for PacIOOS wave buoys.

What's New in PacIOOS Voyager?
A lot!  In fact, there are so many new developments in PacIOOS Voyager that we are dedicating our next newsletter to tell you all about them.   There are new data overlays (like the one pictured at right) and new functions - all based on user feedback and requests.  The more PacIOOS hears from users, the better our tools and services evolve to meet stakeholder needs. Check out Voyager at http://pacioos.org/voyager.

IOOS Summit 2012 logo
U.S. IOOS Summit Declaration
Representatives of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) community convened in Herndon, VA in November 2012 to develop a strategy for the next decade of U.S. IOOS. Over four days, workshop participants reviewed the progress achieved over the last decade, validated the need for an integrated observing system, and identified opportunities for growth over the next ten years. The first result of this effort is the U.S. IOOS Summit Declaration. Over 150 Summit attendees have already signed; we invite you to show your continued support of IOOS by signing the declaration
