Together with Christian Military Fellowship, ACCTS will co-host the 25th annual gathering of the Fellowship of Christian Military Ministries in Colorado Springs from 23-25 March. Here's a brief history of how God created and is using this this organization to His glory.
The Fellowship of Christian Military Ministries (FCMM) is an affiliation of military ministries called to join God's work in the uniformed services around the world. The purpose of the FCMM is to help focus and enhance the efforts of these ministries through prayer and cooperation as they serve the Lord.
The group started in 1990 when an ACCTS staff member suggested that a cooperative effort among military ministries might better serve the worldwide military community. In 1993, the FCMM covenant was adopted to express the vision and mission of the organization:
Recognizing that wherever two or three of us are together at one location Jesus Christ is among us, we covenant to:
Love one another
Pray for one another
Encourage one another
Support one another
Meet with one another
Communicate with one another
Coordinate with one another
Cooperate with one another
To the end that Jesus Christ might be exalted at our locations.
Although the common purpose of each ministry is to exalt Jesus Christ within the uniformed forces, FCMM members understand that although each organization has been called to minister in a particular part of the Lord's global vineyard, by working together under the covenant, they can be more effective in accomplishing God's work. Over the years, focus groups have been formed to consider specific aspects of military ministry, such as outreach to the Russian military, ministry to Muslim militaries, and chaplaincy training.
Member ministries take turns sponsoring the annual FCMM conference - the host selects the venue and determines a theme. In 2006, an Executive Leadership Team was formed to discuss better integration of member ministry efforts and examine ways to help "conserve the fruit" harvested through the various ministries. This initiative was solidified in 2007 when Military Missions Network agreed to serve as Corresponding Secretary to maintain contact with member ministries, establish a membership database, and develop standard operating procedures for the Fellowship. In recent years, a community dinner for local church and military ministry leaders was instituted to learn more about military ministry.
