"God Stories"

January 2014 - Okinawa Ministry

Although most of the ACCTS staff resides in the US, we do have some who live overseas.  This God story comes from the couple that minister in Okinawa.

One of our active-duty Marine wives had an abortion before her marriage.  She accepted Christ through the ministry at the Hansen Christian Center while her husband was serving in Iraq.  She then shared that she was afraid that her non-believing husband would divorce her if he found out about the abortion, since they had tried to have a baby for several years, but hadn't been able to conceive.

They had adopted a baby boy before the husband deployed to Iraq, and the wife shared that she was still haunted by the guilt of what she had done earlier. We reviewed with her how Jesus went to the cross to take away her sins, past, present and future.  We explained that "He hurled your sin into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:19) and that God forgives our sins, removing them as far as east is from west. (Psalm 103:12).   As we prayed through her tears, her guilt was gone!

Then we were able to focus on the new baby, explaining how God knew before the foundations of the earth that he was to be their child!  My husband shared his story about being adopted not once, but twice - the second time as a child of God.  We prayed with her that their son would grow up loving The Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength and love his neighbor as himself, and that in time he too would be adopted a second time as a fellow heir to the king with Jesus.

We then encouraged her to pray that her husband might find Christ in Iraq.  With God, all things are possible, and her prayers were soon answered!  After a harrowing day of house-to-house sweeps for insurgents, her husband heard God's call, and fell to his knees on a stony road in Iraq as he accepted Christ as his savior!  May God continue to bless this Marine family as they raise their son in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
