Bob Reifsnyder, a long serving member of the ACCTS staff in ministry to the Military Christian Fellowships of Central and South America, as well the Spanish speaking Caribbean, provides this insight into the power of prayer.
When the Military Christian Fellowship (MCF) of El Salvador approached the Chairman of their Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) to request approval for hosting a Basic Chaplaincy Course, the Minister of Defense became involved. When the incumbent CJCS was later reassigned, his replacement was strongly opposed to the course. The Minister of Defense, however, directed that the order approving the course be prepared, and signed it himself!
Several months later, on the day before the chaplain's were to graduate, the MCF president and the ACCTS team leader paid a courtesy call on the new JCS Chairman who had been so opposed to the course. They were greeted in the waiting room, but not invited into the general's office until the team leader asked permission to show him the student materials from the course.
The team leader gave the general a copy of the course text "A Soldier of God Remembers," and a deluxe version of "God's Promises for Your Every Need," which the graduates would receive the next day for their work as chaplains. The team leader then asked permission to pray for the general, and received permission to do so.
As they were shaking hands to say goodbye, the general said, "Wait a minute," and went to his office. Upon returning he shook hands again, and the team leader felt a coin in his hand. The general had given him one of the limited edition "Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff" challenge coins reserved for those whom the Chairman wishes to honor in a special way. What a change of heart our Lord and Savior brought about in this senior officer!
"Let your hearts be changed, every one of you, and have baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will have the Holy Spirit given to you." (Acts 3:19 BBE)
