I am reminded of a visit that I made in 1996 to Cameroon, on the west coast of Africa. Our mission was to follow up with international Christians who had attended the 1994 Association of Military Christian Fellowships (AMCF) World Conference the Virginia Beach. We had the name of our contact, but no address other than that he lived in Yaounde, Cameroon's capital city.
Rather than rent a car, we decided to hire a taxi to drive us from the airport on the coast in Douala to Yaounde, about a hundred miles to the east. We told the driver that we needed to convert our US money, and he replied that although the banks were about to close, he would get us there in time. If you can imagine some of the wildest taxi rides you have seen in the movies, you can imagine our trip to the bank!
We arrived jas the bank was about to close, but the driver interceded with the bank officials to let us to exchange our money. As we continued our trip through the rising terrain to Yaounde, the driver asked for the address of the person we wanted to visit. We said that we didn't have an address, but only the name of a minister who had attended the conference.
When we told the driver his name, he said that he knew the man well and took us right to him! Was it a coincidence that out of all the taxi drivers in the Cameroon, our driver happened to know the one person we wanted to visit? I think not . . ..
