Glam on the Red Carpet
our favorite looks
from the Oscars

Variations of the most time-honored hair styles set the trend for the 85th Academy Awards ceremony.

One of the most ubiquitous styles were classic 40's curls. With a side part, this sleek look complements any dress. Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Saldana, and Helen Hunt all embraced this hairstyle. Stacy Keibler joined this hair club as well, but with a shorter interpretation. Here she is with beaux George Clooney who sported a beard- very popular with he guys this season.

We think that the most feminine women on the red carpet were Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway. Charlize attended the 85th Annual Academy Awards wearing her flaxen tresses in a super-short boyish haircut that she jazzed up with plenty of mascara and glossy nude lips. Anne channeled Audrey Hepburn- a perfect look for her elegant facial features.

Both Anne and Charlize's cropped cuts really show how feminine and elegant shorter hair can be. What a daring look for this red carpet event!

o recreate their look, start with a volumizing spray such as Aveda's Volumizing Tonic. Simply finger comb the hair into place while using a blow dryer. If extra hold is necessary, rub in some pomade like Aveda's Control Paste or mist with a little hairspray and then casually tousle with fingertips.

We can't leave out Jennifer Lawrence who  won Best Actress in a Leading Role. She had it going with her simple but stylish updo

For her Oscars hair style, apply a few drops of Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid to damp hair and comb through. This serum is loaded with plant-based ingredients-like certified organic jojoba to help condition and smooth hair.

Next, add a large dollop of Aveda Phomollient  to your hair and blow dry with a large round brush.

Then, take random pieces from each side and loosely twist them and pin them together at the back of the head with bobby pins in crosses.

Finally, take the remaining hair and gather it into a loose playful bun and finished as always with one of Aveda's excellant hair sprays.

"Share the Love"is a huge success! We raised over $1,000 for the children of the world.

Our sponsored child, Julia Cuevas

For those who visited our salon last month, you know about our fundraising efforts to sponsor two children through World Vision. We were blown away at the generosity of our guests' donations. Donations from our guests were $903. Jim and Morgan also contributed an additional donated $100. This is our 2nd annal fundraiser, which we coin "Share the Love", ended on Valentine's week.

With that large sum of money we will be able to sponsor Julia Batista Cuevas, a beautiful  11 year old girl who lives in the Dominican Republic with her Grandmother and siblings. Here community is ravaged by AIDS. We also sponsor Sheron Sadiki, a cute little boy who lives in Tanzania with his family of farmers.

Since we surpassed our goals of $850, some of the remaining funds have been donated to World Vision in support of children programs to provide 15 vaccinations for children and infants. The rest of the money will give a year of school to an orphan child and buy school supplies. As the year goes on we will get correspondence from our kids and updates on their health and well being from World Vision.

You see, separately, none of us may have made a small contribution but as a group we can pool our resources to make a difference in the world. That is what Artisan Salon is about and YOU are an integral part of our salon. Congratulations on your generosity. Together, we are building a better world for children and their families.

Aveda can give you thicker, fuller hair with "invati".

While chatting with friends you may share the anxiety that we all suffer as we get older- thinning hair. Even 20-something year old men and women will experience forms of hair aging like finer edges and loss of volume. But these new products from Aveda may be the solution to our tress woes.

The beauty brand delved into their roots in Ayurveda -- the 5,000 year-old healing tradition from India -- to create a range specifically for thinning hair. Invati, which is Sansrkit for "invigorate," is a daily system that includes an Exfoliating Shampoo, Thickening Conditioner and Scalp Revitalizer that work in tandem to help you keep the hair you have, as well as prevent future loss by unclogging pores and strengthening the shaft.

Blended with essential oils, herbs and nutrients like lavender, rosemary, kukui nut, ginseng and vitamin E, the star ingredient of this line is turmeric. The mustard-color spice, commonly used in curry Indian cooking, penetrates the scalp and stimulates circulation when massaged in. And you'll know that it's working because of the warm, tingling sensation it produces.

This 3-step process includes a shampoo which cleanses, exfoliates and renews the scalp with wintergreen-derived salicylic acid. The conditioner is clinically proven to thicken hair with a blend of guar, palm and rapeseed-derived ingredients.

The third step is to apply the scalp revitalizer onto your scalp twice daily. This contains densiplexTM-an invigorating blend of Ayurvedic herbs, including turmeric and ginseng which helps energize and rehabilitate the scalp around the follicles when massaged in.

Try the entire line or just incorporate the Scalp Revitalizer into your morning and evening routines if you want to target thinning hair at the source.
