Prince George's Community College Foundation, Inc. and Prince George's Community College celebrate raising $18 million for the Purpose, People, Possibilities campaign and announcing a new $25 million goal at the Partners for Success Awards Dinner. We also highlight Siccola Clark, a mass communication major who is envisioning success each day and taking advantage of the opportunities the college has to offer. President Dukes, Deidra Hill, and Metropolitan Police and PGCC alumna Chief Cathy Lanier were recognized by Class Act Productions for their commitment to residents of Prince George's County and the Washington Metropolitan area. The Second Annual Community Awards Ceremony was held October 7 at the Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville.
Janet Sims-Wood, librarian, received the Mary McLeod Bethune Service Award at the 97th Annual Association for the Study of African American Life and History Convention, September 26 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sims-Wood was honored for her contributions and commitment to the organization's mission and service.

College and Foundation Raise $18 Million for Purpose, People, Possibilities Campaign
|

|
Prince George's Community College Foundation, Inc. and Prince George's Community College have raised $18 million for the major gifts campaign, which originally had a $15 million goal. Purpose, People, Possibilities supports three institutional priorities including academic and workforce development programs, state-of-the art teaching facilities, and scholarships for diverse student populations. Before more than 600 guests at the Partners for Success Awards Dinner, the college and foundation announced a new goal of $25 million. | Envision Success: Siccola Clark |

When communications major Siccola Clark walks into a radio or TV studio, she immediately feels at home. The extensive hands-on training she receives at the college covers technical elements of broadcasting, as well as creative aspects. She put this experience to work during her internship with Agape Soul Nation, a Christian media portal specializing in music and the arts. She also was accepted into the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program, which provides participants with scholarships and offers courses designed to develop them into successful entrepreneurs.

| PGCC Receives $5 Million to Support Cybersecurity Education |

|
The National Science Foundation has awarded Prince George's Community College a $5 million National Advanced Technological Education Center continuation grant for its National CyberWatch-Cybersecurity Education Solutions for the Nation project. The grant, to be disbursed over the next four years, will enable the National CyberWatch Center, headquartered at the college, to build a culture of collaboration with community colleges across the country, grow programs and increase faculty capabilities based on models of excellence, and promote the cybersecurity profession nationally. PGCC Attracts New Donors

In November, the 16 community colleges in Maryland united for 24 hours of giving. Prince George's Community College came in 2nd place, raising $13,201 and encouraging 270 unique donors to give including students, employees, and members of the community. Donations will support the college in adapting and updating courses, improving technology and infrastructure, and sustaining a dynamic learning environment. The college's Big Give efforts were part of the Purpose, People, Possibilities major gifts campaign.

| $2.5 Million Award Prepares Noncredit Students for Technology Careers |

Prince George's Community College has been selected by the Maryland Higher Education Commission to receive $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration's Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant Program to develop the Information Technology Education and Career Pathways noncredit program. The grant allows the college to incorporate virtual instruction, interactive simulations, online and real-world problem-solving challenges, and collaborations between learners and instructors.

A Piece of My Heart Examines the Impact of the Vietnam War on Women
|
|
A Piece of My Heart, which examined the impact of the Vietnam War on six women, ran last month at Prince George's Community College in Hallam Theatre. The play was selected to bridge the gap between the current generation's understanding of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and their knowledge of the war in Vietnam and the affect it had on the nation. The production seated the audience on and near the stage bringing them closer to the actors and creating a more intimate setting in the theatre.

NSA Funding Provides Construction Management Training
|
|
Prince George's Community College has secured a training agreement with the National Security Agency (NSA) to instruct NSA representatives in construction management. The college was selected for its unique understanding of construction from a contractor's perspective. A three-person team will conduct the training over an 18-month period covering seven of the college's three-credit classes in construction management. Participants will earn a certificate in construction management.

National Program Offers Veterans Academic Support
|
|
The Veterans Upward Bound Program will offer low-income, first generation college students who are veterans and living in Maryland or Virginia refresher courses and support services. The program will cover core academic subjects and offer financial aid and financial literacy assistance, personal and social counseling, peer and disability support, faculty and academic advising, and career planning. The college's Veterans Upward Bound Program is the first in Maryland and was one of only a few programs nationwide to receive a $1.25 million five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Marketing and Creative Services Wins Big at NCMPR
|
|
Prince George's Community College dominated the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 1 Medallion Awards Dinner in winning five Gold Medallions of Excellence, four Silver Medallions of Achievement, and four Bronze Medallions of Merit. The Office of Marketing and Creative Services garnered the most national awards of any other institution. Maryland community colleges as a whole took home 43 awards, the most of any state represented in the district, with PGCC leading the way. |
