Study on Self-Injury in an Adolescent with Autism in a School Setting to be Presented Locally
Dr. Jane Barbin will join efforts with staff from Fairfax County Public Schools (Shauna Gardziel, Rob Curran & Amy McDaniel) to present research data promoting outcomes for students with autism at the Virginia Association for Behavior Analysis (VABA) conference on April 26th.
We are excited to share the data from our study, which represents best practice, behavioral standards and science implemented in a school environment. Using an alternating treatment design, the team evaluated two differing BIPs to address self-injury in an adolescent with long-standing problem behaviors.
The team found that, by using treatment integrity procedures, strategic professional support, and didactic and in vivo training, an effective (yet feasible) treatment plan could be quickly identified for the student with added staff educational and team building advantages.
The study "Comparing Two School-based Behavior Intervention Plans to Address Self-Injury in an Adolescent with ASD Using an Alternating Treatment Design" will be presented at VABA's annual conference (www.virginiaaba.org) in Leesburg, Va. this week. Come join us!
