The New Second Generation Triton Two+ and Triton Three+ Debut at CES 2016

As hard as we try, we just can't leave well enough alone. The original GoldenEar Triton Two and Triton Three were extremely well received, winning multiple loudspeaker and product of the year awards, and have established a strong following in the high performance audio community. But the extensive engineering and research conducted during the development of the Triton One led us to believe that we could substantially enhance not only their performance but their exceptional value as well.

The Triton Two was an evolution of Sandy's speaker design philosophies starting with his first creations in the early 70s, through the breakthrough products that he and Don Givogue created in the early 90's. The original basic concepts and technologies developed for GoldenEar systems included our superb High Velocity Folded Ribbon tweeter, high-powered built-in powered subwoofers, cast-frame upper bass/midrange drivers and linear phase crossovers. These fundamentals later evolved into the Triton One which refined all that had come before while breaking substantial new ground. The sonic results speak for themselves and the Triton One has been positively compared with loudspeakers selling for more than ten times as much. Not surprisingly, the Triton One has won virtually every major industry award, including numerous Speaker-of-the-Year and Product-of-the-Year awards from many of the world's most prestigious and well respected audio publications. Now, we're excited to announce the second generation Triton Two and Three, the Triton Two+ and Triton Three+, incorporating many of the Triton One technologies and refinements.

Every GoldenEar speaker is a study in synergy; "The interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements..." (Dictionary.com). An exceptional loudspeaker design is much more than the sum of its concepts and parts. It takes a substantial commitment to get it right, schedule be damned, and the knowledge and perseverance to execute a cohesive plan. Getting all those niggling little details right is the key that makes the difference between good and great.

Listening to the Triton Two+ and Three+ will instantly reveal how successful we've been. Initial listening by noted critics and important reviewers has been exceedingly positive, and the consistent response has been surprise and shock at just how closely the sonic character and voicing of the new speakers approaches that of the Triton One. As usual, much of the development was done at our extensive Arnprior, Ontario engineering facility, utilizing our superb full-size anechoic chamber which is fully suspended from its environment, so that the delicate measurements taken within it are not interfered with by outside disturbances and vibrations. Our engineering group feels strongly that only by using such a chamber can you really measure, reveal, focus and optimize many of the subtle yet important points of a loudspeaker's performance.

These new "+" models include totally redesigned upper bass/midrange drivers with new cones, surrounds, spiders and voice coils. Additionally, completely new balanced crossovers with polypropylene capacitors, similar to the one developed for the Triton One, are incorporated. Many listeners don't realize just how critical the crossover is to the sound of a loudspeaker. The crossover is like the conductor of an orchestra, telling each driver exactly when to come in and how loudly to play. The DSP low-level control unit is essentially new too, as it's been completely reprogrammed.

Sonically, both the Triton Three+ and Triton Two+ benefit from a significantly smoother, higher resolution, more open, more revealing and more highly detailed sound. They also deliver dramatically more expansive imaging and tighter, faster, and better integrated bass. Remarkably, the Two+ ($1749 ea. U.S.) and Three+ ($1249 ea. U.S.) now very closely resemble the award-winning Triton One's sonics, as was our goal.

These two new models continue GoldenEar's product development philosophy of creating superb loudspeakers that deliver far more performance than you would expect at prices that are surprisingly affordable. We're certainly proud of the original Triton Two and Three models; the new "+" versions are an evolutionary step that enhances their performance by an order of magnitude.
