Operation Upstate Stand Down
|
Andy Flynt (Reference) at the 2015 Upstate Stand Down
Susan Sutton, Christina Calitri, Andrew Jordan, Leverne McBeth, and I attended Operation Upstate Stand Down on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the Spartanburg Expo Center. Lots of veterans came to either find out about services in the community that they can use or to get free or low-cost care from different providers. Many veterans were served.
Lunch was provided as were take home meals for those who needed it.
We were able to register several veterans for library cards and were able to let them know about our programs and services.

"Bridge Builders:" the 2016 South Carolina Archival Association Annual Meeting."
|
Steve Smith, Coordinator of Local History
Steve Smith (Coordinator of Local History) is completing his year as President of the South Carolina Archival Association. The central theme for this year has been "Bridge Builders: Connecting Archives with Your Community."
The Association's annual meeting, an "Unconference ," featured lightning round presentations, including one on SCPL's " Freedom Summit," and freeform round table discussions focused on programs that build bridges from the archives out to local communities. Innovative programs involved children, teens and adults, and included the South Carolina Digital Library's statewide digital collection efforts.
The keynote speakers, archivist Celeste Wiley and Charleston city records manager Meg Moughan , members of a team of archivists from the Charleston Archives, Libraries and Museums Council (CALM) described their project at Emanuel AME Church, working with church historian Elizabeth Alston to manage and preserve the many gifts received by the Mother Emanuel church community after the tragic shootings there last summer.
None of this would have been possible without the efforts of an amazing, dedicated, hard-working team of archivists from the entire state of South Carolina!

Training Connection
Did you know that the Training Department owns webinar recordings you can watch for free whenever you want?
The Learning Catalog on the LMS now features a Webinars category, where we are continually adding access to new webinars on a variety of topics.
Unlike the free webinars often advertised on the Training Calendar, these webinars were paid events which had to be purchased by the library.
Since we own the rights to these recorded webinars and workshops, you can watch them on your own schedule, without having to sign up or request access.
And, since these webinars are in the Learning Catalog, you will automatically receive training credit for watching them-no need to fill out another form in your Self-Directed Achievement Log.
Just follow these 3 steps to access the recorded webinars:
- From the Intranet, click on ShareKnowledge LMS.
- Click on Learning Catalog at the left of the page.
- Select Webinars from the list of topics.
When you visit the Webinars category in the Learning Catalog, you will find sessions available on topics including:
- Customer service
- Tween programming
- Gamification
- Infographics
- Personal electronics
- And more!
New webinars added to this area will be listed in the weekly LMS notifications. Check back for new content, as we continue to add to this section!
Do you have a webinar you'd like to suggest for purchase? Does your branch or department own a webinar you would like added to the LMS? Just email Jennifer Wright at jenniferw@infodepot.org.
Build your skills with a webinar and get training credit today!

TOUCH-a-TRUCK at LANDRUM
Patrons are enjoying one of our ever popular Touch-a Truck events held at the Landrum Library. We have had various companies and services bring in all kinds of big equipment for the children to explore and get hands-on with.
This year, there was a fire truck, an ambulance, an off-road rescue vehicle, a cement mixer, a tow truck, a truck from the gas company, and even a harvester from the local sod farm!
The children seemed to like it best when the fire truck and the ambulance turned on their sirens at the same time.
