Tagua Nut Jewelry
Artisans handcraft this luscious jewelry from glossy "petals" of tagua nut. Also known as "vegetable ivory," tagua is produced by a palm-like tree in South America. The nuts fall to the ground when mature thus harvesting does not damage the trees. Tagua nut's grain is close and very hard, resembling the finest ivory. Cultural tradition and forest preservation combine in the use of this renewable resource.
Many varieties available: bracelets, necklaces, earrings, sets. Priced from $16-$39.
Stop in and ask Deb...she loves telling people all about it!

Katie Schiefen has worked at Blue Flamingo for over a year and moved to our new location with us. Katie especially enjoys sweeping and vaccuming the floors and rugs at the shop. In addition, she keeps the water barrel filled, waters the garden and flowers, cleans the shop windows, sorts clothes and "rainbows" the clothing. She does all of these tasks with a smile on her face.
Her nickname is "Sunshine Katie," and she lives up to it every day. When not working at the Blue Flamingo Katie volunteers at Lakeside Hospital delivering the mail, sings in a choir, takes cooking classes, belongs to a bowling league, and travels frequently to visit her brothers. Katie found employment with the Blue Flamingo through Mosaic, who partners with people with intellectual disabilities to create a meaningful life in a caring community, giving a voice to their needs.
Katie's happy smiling face and positive attitude brings joy to the staff, volunteers and customers. Thank you Katie!

Donations Needed
We rely on our loyal supporters for donations which help us continue our thrift shop ministry. Right now, our needs include:
- costume jewelry
- back-to-school shoes (new or gently used)
- quality children's books
- heavy-duty shelving (call to inquire)
- folding chairs (10-20)
- housewares
- home decorating items
- kitchen pots & pans
- kitchen serving pieces
To practice environmental stewardship, we have recently switched from plastic bags to paper bags. We would appreciate your donation of paper shopping bags (with handles) of all sizes. We hope you will think of us as you do your end-of-summer cleaning!

Ways to Connect with Us
Fall is almost here, and that means it's time to book the Blue Flamingo for your Fair Trade holiday events. We would love to bring Fair Trade items to your mission fair or Holiday Market. Plus, when you host a sale, your organization can earn 10% of the profits!
Don't have space for an event---we'll provide it! Call us to book your private party or Open House at the Blue. We provide coffee, tea, invites, and paper supplies---you provide the guests.
We also welcome visits from women's groups, youth groups, non-profit and business groups, and every other type of group!
Other ways to connect this fall:
- Encourage your church to put a link to us on your church website
- Invite us to "pick" your garage sale or rummage sale when it's over
- Volunteer to leaflet, sort, or clean the store
Call Deb today at 402.964.2740 for more information about any of these opportunities.
