New Arrivals: Felted Birdhouses

Fair Trade birdhouses We are pleased to announce the arrival of these delightful felted birdhouses from DZI, a Fair Trade group  specializing in handcrafts made by Tibetan refugees in Nepal.

The birdhouses are designed for outdoor use, and have proven quite popular with nesting birds. We think they will be a great addition to any yard, and would be a very appropriate gift for birthdays, Mother's Day, and weddings. Also available: felted ornaments and small finger-puppet animals that double as pencil toppers. Birdhouses $25; felted ornaments and animals $8-10.

Friend of the Month
Linda Ethridge
Linda created beautiful centerpieces for the state United Methodist Women meeting last September. The bouquets featured handmade picks advertising UMW-supported programs, including Blue Flamingo.

Linda Ethridge has a passion for volunteer work and missions. When she retired in 2010, Linda began volunteering weekly at the Blue Flamingo and has been a faithful volunteer ever since. Linda sorts and prices donations, cleans, and does general support work. She calls it her 'Monday afternoon escape.'

Linda had been watching the Blue Flamingo evolve since it began back on Vinton Street. She knew that when she retired from her teaching position of 16 years as a Special Education teacher in the Bellevue Schools she wanted to share her time and talents at the Blue Flamingo.

Linda is an active and gifted volunteer in many places and in many ways. She teaches Sunday School at St. James United Methodist Church in Bellevue, reads to the children at the St. James Daycare program, is a TeamMates mentor, and is active in United Methodist Women.

Stop by the Blue Flamingo on Monday afternoons and you will be greeted by a dedicated, cheerful volunteer. Her passion is contagious and you will leave the Blue Flamingo happy and smiling. We love you, Linda, and thank you for volunteering and all the other ways you support the ministry of the Blue Flamingo!
