15th Annual Radiothon Event
| |
On December 6th, the Children's Cottage turned 26. Rather than spend the day eating cake, we rolled up our sleeves, called on our incredible volunteers, and held our annual 12-hour Radiothon fundraising event.
At 6 am that day, coffees in hand (yes, some may have had two coffees to make that early morning start!) our staff and volunteers and XL103 began a fun day of raising money for children and families in need of support. XL listeners and our donors came through. The phones rang steady all day, especially when we had prizes to give away. Starbucks was on-site for an hour giving away cranberry bliss bars (yum!) and coffee for donations to the cause. We had volunteers selling our Cookie Cookbooks and many others sharing about Children's Cottage with people passing by. Those passers-by and Starbucks partakers donated a total of $3,929 in coin and cash during the day. We were amazed by the generousity.

We were incredibly lucky to have some special guests make our day a little brighter. Matt Walter and Rob Cote of the Stampeders arrived at 11:30 to sign autographs and pose with our mascot, Jenny the Kangaroo. Not too long after that we were thrilling fans of the show Heartland with an autograph signing by "Jack" aka Shaun Johnston. To complete our day of celebrity guests we were lucky enough to have Martin Gelinas, former Flames player and newly hired Flames assistant coach visit our event.
Throughout the day, we were entertained by the fabulous XL103 and all the great songs requested by our donors. There was a wide variety of requests and XL did an amazing job of keeping up.
The 15th Annual Children's Cottage Radiothon was a great success. Thank you so much!
