inside and out

Brenda's House - a safe haven for families without a home

Brenda's House is the Children's Cottage residence for families who are experiencing homelessness. Many of the families who come to live at Brenda's House have lost their homes due to unexpected interruption of income from loss of work, family breakup, challenges related to health or the difficulties of single parenting. At Brenda's House we provide a family-friendly environment where parents can bring their children and feel confident they are living in a safe and healthy setting.

Our Living Room

Parents receive help with locating new housing in the community, as well as addressing financial and other issues that may be impacting their family. There is a child care centre on site so parents can view apartments and attend appointments without worrying about their little ones. Older children are able to attend school in the local community during their stay with us so their education is not interrupted.

We are excited to be offering a new case management service at Brenda's House which allows us to follow families after they leave our shelter. Case Managers work with families as they settle into their new homes, ensuring they get connected to a community support system, which can help them if they encounter future difficulties reducing their likelihood of needing to return to shelter in the future.

At Brenda's House we celebrate the fresh starts we are able to provide to families. As a current resident recently stated, "I can't thank you enough for providing this good place to stay for me and my baby. We had nowhere to go and no one to help us, and I was so afraid. Now I have the help I need and I can rebuild a good life for my little son."
