Respite is a Key to Success for Many Parents
| | How would you cope if you had a beautiful new baby but you felt yourself spiraling into depression without friends or family to support you? What would you do if you learned you needed to be admitted to hospital for a day procedure and your child care fell through?
There are many times in a parent's life that she or he must call friends and family to help out. However, parents frequently find themselves alone and with no support when trying situation arise. This is why our Community Respite Program exists. We provide child care options to families facing struggles such as social isolation, financial stress, parenting alone, exhaustion, health concerns, or with twins, triplets or multiples.
The Society's Community Respite Program consists of the Child Care Respite Program, In-home Infant Respite Care and a Volunteer Day Care Program. All three are uniquely created to meet varying needs we see on a repeat basis. All are designed to keep children safe and support parents as they work through challenges.

More about the Child Care Respite Program
| | |
The Child Care Respite Program (CCRP) coordinates short-term child care placements to families who may be experiencing crisis or may be at risk of needing the intervention of Calgary & Area Child and Family Services. It is designed for families with children aged 0-12 who are experiencing multiple challenges or crises and are working with a professional (social worker, counsellor, doctor) to overcome their challenges or crisis. It is a goal-oriented program in which parents actively set and meet goals to improve their situation.

Lisa credits the CCRP for the success and safety of both herself and her son. Having fled domestic violence, and struggling with anorexia, depression and attempted suicide, Lisa was in need of time and support to regain her strength and care for herself in order to care for her son. The CCRP found a child care placement and Lisa began counselling.
Lisa was able to secure housing and seek help for her mental health concerns due to the time the child care placement provided for her. Lisa's son is succeeding at daycare and benefiting from opportunities for socialization, physical activities and play.
