| You Did It! What a Difference You Made! | | |
What remarkable support we received through the holiday season! All because of caring individuals like you! We have a wonderful story to share from one of our staff members who had this to say, "I was called an "angel" and blessed many times over. I went to a family's home after Christmas to check in and to see how everything went. The mom looked so sad. She had applied for an adopt-a-family program for her husband, two year old son and baby, but unfortunately they didn't send any toys. They sent clothes that were too big for any of her children and toiletries; the closest thing to a toy was a bottle of shampoo with a Disney character on it. Her son tried to play with it, but it fell short to say the least. The boy was so angry at his mom for not buying him anything; he wouldn't even look at her. As a two year old, he just didn't understand that they couldn't afford it. The mom had tears running down her cheeks as I stood there, it was so sad."
Our Crisis Nursery was blessed to receive SO many donations over the holiday season, including fantastic toys. Our staff member made a quick call to the Crisis Nursery and asked if there were any leftovers that she could take to assist this family. In no time, she organized a bunch of toys, some much needed kids clothing and some diapers that she personally took over to this deserving family. "What a great feeling to be able to give, I was so grateful that we had stuff that I could pass on" explained our staff member. "I didn't see the boy when I took the toys over because he was still sleeping, so I told the mom to make sure to tell him that the toys were from her and dad, not from us. It worked out perfectly because now the child would see the gifts coming from his parents and restore peace and dignity within the household. Christmas may have come late in their household, but it came none the less and they were so grateful."
If you were one of the amazing people who donated to the Children's Cottage this holiday season, we thank you! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We hope you will think of us throughout 2012 and we wish you all a year of good health, happiness and magical moment like the one above that make your heart sing! |
