Ketterman's All Ways

September 2015

Always a Story
One of the beauties of precious jewelry is that it can be passed from generation to generation.  The most beauty in these pieces comes from the stories they achieve over the years they are passed down.  Over the years, we have been honored to hear some amazing jewelry stories.  We had a ring in for cleaning recently that had one of those histories we had to share.

This ring was found wrapped in paper penned with its history.  It was originally made from gold mined in Colorado as an engagement gift for a young man's fiance.  In 1904, it was given to her 21 year old daughter, Clara.  In 1908, Clara unknowingly lost the ring while cleaning her hands after kneading bread dough and the ring ended up in the slop pail for the pigs.  When she realized she had lost it, she searched the trough and through the pig pen.  She even went through the hog's intestines after slaughter, but did not find her ring.  In 1935, that's 27 years later, Clara's brother in law found the ring about ten feet from where the hog pen had been.  Needless to say, the ring had a good cleaning and was back in the family to be passed along to the next generation.
Speaking of Journeys...
We've been on a few lately that we wanted to share.
Part of having such a diverse product mix, and with our new Apparel line, Joseph Ribkoff, is traveling to shows to see what's new.
Tammi went to Dallas, TX in late August to see what was new for Joseph Ribkoff and Brighton.  The Fashion world is so much farther ahead than the jewelry world we are used to.  She was looking at items for next spring, and is very excited to bring these fresh new looks to our store to share with you.
After a few days at home, Tammi traveled to California to meet with Brighton retailers from across the country to talk about how things are going in their stores and learn more about this amazing company.  Tammi was even asked to be one of the speakers!  She got to talk about special events and how every person on the team matters to make an event (and a business) successful.
After traveling to California, Dan joined Tammi and they went to St. Louis to visit the store of a dear friend.  Tammi met Cindy on a
Brighton trip to Hawaii a couple years ago.  Cindy has a women's clothing shop called Addie's in Washington, MO.  Don't worry, Dan and Tammi are in Nats Jerseys.

Tammi will be in Fort Lauderdale this weekend to meet with Endless Jewelry partners to discuss the new things for the jewelry line.  Even with her "globe-trotting" she still finds time to run the store and spend time with the grandkids.
The Man in Plaid
Many of you have heard that we lost a Ketterman's Icon last month.  Buddy, "The Watch Guy", passed quietly at home with his family on Tuesday, August 11.  He is greatly missed and we appreciate, along with his family, your many thoughts and prayers.  His son, Taylor, has taken his place at the watch bench, the tools of the trade being passed on to the next generation.  We have compiled a great list of "Buddy-isms".  Those of you who knew him know he said what he wanted, and we loved him for it.  We would love to hear your stories if you have some.  You can read a bit more here.
