Keterman's Always On Time
Daylight savings time begins Sunday, March 8th. Are you ready to "Spring Forward"? This month Ketterman's and our staff will focus on being Always On Time.
Time is such a funny thing. We never seem to have enough of it, yet it is so fun to waste. So often we are "running a little behind," "lost track of time," or sometimes things just take longer than expected. Wouldn't it be amazing if, as a team, for this month, we could all commit to plan ahead enough that it would take a serious incident to derail an all-on-time day. After all, tardiness rarely boils down to more than poor planning.
If I know that it takes me twelve minutes to get to work, why would I ever only allow myself ten? We all know why...because I hit the snooze button three times, so I got up late, I made up a little time by brushing my teeth in the shower and only leaving the conditioner in for 30 seconds. I picked a go-to outfit for fast dressing, but I couldn't find the belt, so I tried three others and decided I had to change my shirt. I tried to gain a few minutes by going for a quick breakfast, but we were out of granola bars, so I had to take a minute to get out the cereal and a cup for easy eating-while-driving. My wonderful husband already put food and water in the dog bowls (seconds spared there!) but one dog doesn't want to leave the comfort of the bed to go outside. Once I get to the car door to leave, I realize I forgot my coffee and my phone, so I run back in to the house, to get the essentials and I'm on my way...late.
There is so much that can happen in a morning, and there are just as many ways we can prepare for it. This month we will all work together on practical ways to better manage our time, so we can all have more of it to do the things we enjoy. Here are just a few tips and tricks we've picked up a long the way, and you may have heard before, but it's time to put it into practice.
*Do it the night before - you can save a lot of time in the morning by laying out your clothing or packing your lunch the night before, when your brain is feeling less chaotic (this works especially well if you have children who compete for your time in the morning).
*Multitask - instead of checking your phone or the news for the traffic or weather, put a radio in the bathroom, you can get filled in while you shower. Set your wake up alarm with a to-do list for the day - that way you know what you're getting into the moment you get up.
*Weekly Plan - Take a few minutes on Sunday to plan the week ahead - do you have everything you will need- a quick breakfast item just in case, snacks for the kids, shampoo? It helps to look at the upcoming days to better plan your time so nothing sneaks up on you.
*Break the "Snoozing" Habit - "Just five more minutes" is not going to make you feel any better when it makes you late, as hard as it may be this is not a good way to start the day.
