Ketterman's Tech
Technology has made so many significant advances over the past decade - iPads, WiFi, GPS, Skype, DVR, and so much more. The jewelry industry was not left out of these advancements. Yes, only three years ago did Ketterman's computerize all of our repair and sale receipts, but in the past several months, we have made some great new additions to our jeweler's shop.
Ketterman's has always offered extensive services for custom creation or redesign of one-of-a-kind pieces. The opportunities for creativity are endless with staff and jewelers on site to help with drawing out sketches, carving waxes, or simply finding an existing jewelry piece that can accommodate your needs. Ketterman's newest design tool, Counter Sketch, offers a new facet to the design process. With this new technology, the customer can work with one of our trained staff members to create a design of their liking and see a three-dimensional digital image of the finished piece, and even make adjustments - in real time, before having the piece made.
The Counter Sketch program provides thousands of templates that can be adjusted to fit your design needs. The program allows you and the designer to add or remove stones and determine their size and shape, modify how stones are held in the piece, and modify depths, widths, and heights to completely customize your creation. For years Ketterman's has, and continues, to work with other designers to deliver similar services, customizing pieces and providing digital images of the design, but Counter Sketch allows for real-time rendering of realistic on-screen images of your piece as it would look once completed. This new means of design saves time in the design process and provides a truly personal involvement in the creation of the piece, while allowing visualizations throughout the process.
Ketterman's new Laser Welder allows the jewelers to make repairs that would not have been possible before. Certain stones and metals can not take the heat of the jeweler's torch to be repaired. The welder allows a high amount of heat to be so precise that these difficult repairs are now possible. Our jewelers used to have to pull certain stones from their settings to do repairs, making the risk higher to the more fragile stones such as opals or emeralds. Now, your piece can remain intact for maintenance and repairs such as rebuilding prongs and repairing breaks in undercarriages. This new member of the shop has been helping out so much lately, the Ketterman's family and staff would like your help in naming him or her. Submit your entries on our facebook page or to our e-mail (with the subject line "Ketterman's Laser Welder". The winner will receive a $50.00 gift certificate for any jewelry repair or re-design.
Change is always taking place in technology, and we are looking forward to being able to better serve you with these new additions.

Welcome Baby Will! Katie Ketterman (Cockerill) and her husband Josh welcomed baby William Davis Cockerill into the world on Tuesday, May 28. Mom, dad and Baby are doing well, and Grammy and Grumpa (Tammi and Dan) are enjoying their new addition. Katie will be back in the jewelers shop, with her new little helper in a couple weeks. He has already been fitted for his jeweler's apron, but he will not be allowed to use the jeweler's torch until he is six months old (just kidding, but he will be at the store some). |

-Laguiole Knives-
These knives originated in Laguiole, France, a city known for fine craftsmanship and quality cutlers. The name is widely used for this folding style of pocket knife, but the true Laguiole knives are still produced, by hand in the city in France.
Ketterman's carries Forge de Laguiole pocket knives and picnic knives. These functional works of art are produced in Laguiole, France. The handles are hand carved from wood and bone. The blades are of the finest quality steel and are hand polished and washed. There are over 40 steps in the process of creating a true Laguiole knife, from the signature bee on the base of the blade, and the shepherd's cross in the handle.

Fun Fact...
DID YOU KNOW?
The Counter Sketch software produces what is called a "CAD" or Computer-Aided Design that can be "printed" as a three dimensional wax model and cast as a piece of jewelry.
The term laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation (you probably have to be a physicist to know what that actually means).
