What Makes You Feel Loved?
There are many ways people communicate love.  Whether it's romantic or not, there are specific ways individuals express their feelings to others, and certain preferences they have in what makes them feel loved or appreciated.  There are five basic communication methods that have to do with how we care about others and how we can be cared for (Dr. Gary Chapman

The 5 Love Languages):

Words of Affirmation

If an encouraging word can make your day, or being told you've done a good job makes you smile, you may prefer words of affirmation.  A person who prefers this language will benefit from a card or a note to let them know how you feel.

Ketterman's gift ideas: Shannon Martin or Borealis Press greeting card with a personal note of encouragement.  A jewelry or gift item personalized with engraving.
Quality Time
If the amount you feel someone cares about you is based on the time spent together doing things you like, you are most likely a "quality timer".  This may be the least tangible of all the languages and the most difficult to "gift" for.  The definition of "quality" depends on the individual, but being together with people they care about makes these communicators feel loved.
Ketterman's gift ideas:  A watch, engraved with a personal message, along with a certificate for time spent together.  A gift certificate for two - you can spend time together selecting a gift he/she will enjoy.
 Acts of Service

Do you feel loved when a friend helps you with a project, cleans out your car, or runs an errand for you?  If so, you are most likely a person who appreciates acts of service.  People who prefer this language enjoy doing things to help people, large or small tasks that relieve pressures of everyday life.   Ketterman's gift ideas: Make them dinner and present a pretty salt and pepper shaker or nice serving piece from Julia Knight or Mariposa.  Have a beloved jewelry piece repaired or redesigned.

 Receiving Gifts

If you think you can buy happiness, wrap it, and pass it along to a friend, receiving gifts is likely your love language.  Gifts with specific meaning are more valuable to these communicators.  It is a very tangible and measurable communication style, but not always easy on the giver.  Ketterman's gift idea: just about anything will work, but a charm bracelet with each charm having a meaning will be significant-wrap each one individually to really make them smile.

Physical Touch

Do you touch people when you talk to them, or hug your friends every time you meet?  If personal contact is important to you, your love language could be physical touch.  These communicators usually like to be physically closer to others, the act of being close to someone emotionally involves being close physically.   Ketterman's gift ideas: A Brighton belt - it is like a constant hug.  Honey House Naturals lip butter and lotion.

We can learn a lot from each other when we discuss the ways we communicate.  Entering this "season of love" it might be interesting to see how you communicate and prefer to receive love.  You may have a pretty good idea of what makes you feel cherished, but if you really want to tell someone they are loved, it is valuable to think about what communication type they are.  To fully communicate to others how you feel about them in the way they best understand, knowledge of the five love languages is important.

A Good Day
Family NYC       We were blessed to spend the first day of our New York Gift Fair trip with nearly the entire family in the city.  We started the day at Times Square Church (and were actually all able to sit together).  We had lunch at a family favorite, Bubba Gump's, complete with movie memorabilia, trivia and excellent seafood
We had tickets to see a matinee of Newsies, so after a bit of window shopping Toys R' Us (very dangerous with a 3 and 5 year old), we headed to the theater.  There was some concern for Sam and Brinn's attention span,  but the show was entertaining for all.  We topped off the evening with a nice family dinner at a "fancy" restaurant, at Brinn's request.
The most memorable part of the entire day happened during the show.  When asked at intermission how they liked the show, the kids were enthusiastic about their love of the singing and dancing.  Sam was easily following along with the story and was interested to see how things turned out.  In the second act, a completely silent theater witnessed a much anticipated kiss between Jack and Katherine (whoops, spoiler alert).  The romantic moment was quickly interrupted by a displeased, "Eeeww" from the center of the theater - it was Sam.  The entire building exploded with laughter, including the actors on stage (they turned to face the backdrop, trembling in an attempt to maintain their composure) .   Once the audience had settled, the show continued.
When the lights came on at the end of the show, we greeted our newly famous nephew with many congratulations for upstaging the professionals.  We will be sure to bring out this story at family events in the future.  It was a good day spent with the family and we all had a great, memorable laugh.

Feature Product
-Brighton Belts-
Where it all started.

At 19 years old, Jerry Kohl (the owner of Brighton) purchased a men's belt manufacturing company.  He had developed a relationship with the owners through a business he started with his high school sweet heart, Terry Kravitz (who later became Mrs. Kohl.)  From the beginning, Jerry and Terry desired to create a business different from others they had seen.  They wanted to produce products with heart and offer personal, quality service and an excellent product.  They took a very hands on approach, knocking on doors and servicing the stores themselves.  They produced their own products in their own factories to assure close supervision of their vision.
Brighton Belts
Today Brighton has grown to produce a wide variety of leather goods and jewelry, but still offers belts for both men and women with the same level of commitment to personalized service and impeccable quality.
Jewelry Fact
DID YOU KNOW?

Each belt hole in a Brighton Belt is painted on the inside.  One person in the factory is responsible for this task.

The ornamentation on all Brighton pieces (including belts) is made in the the exact same way as their jewelry - starting as a pencil sketch by one of their designers and finishing with a precious metal plating and lacquer finish.
