You're Invited to a Special Forum About Community Schools

Education remains the surest route to success, but unmet needs can act as barriers to a student's ability to learn. Believing that every child deserves every opportunity, two special forums will be held to learn about the national movement of Community Schools. Using public schools as hubs, community schools bring together many partners to offer a range of supports and opportunities to children, youth, families and communities.

One forum will be held in Wells, ME and the other in Bangor, ME. We hope you can join us to learn about ways to strengthen schools, family and community partnerships.

September 23, 2014
8:30 am-3:45 pm
Eastern Maine Community College
(Rangeley Hall)
268 Sylvan Road, Bangor, ME

Co-hosted by State Senator Rebecca Millett and Penquis

What is a Community School?
A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.

The forums are intended for educators, school administrators, parents/families, student representatives, social service agencies, school board members, school partners, elected officials and community leaders and members who want to work together to help children, families and communities succeed.
