A Second Ukrainian region asks to join Russia after gas bill ultimatum is issued to Ukraine
Following another successful referendum vote this past weekend, Donestk became the second region of Ukraine to separate itself from the government in Kiev.
Polling stations announced that the referendum passed with over 90% voting for separation. Now, Donestk wants to join Russia right as the government in Kiev is still attempting to negotiate a deal with Russia's Gazprom who supplies over half of the natural gas going into Ukraine. If Ukraine doesn't reach a deal, Gazprom has said it will turn off the supply putting Ukraine and the global energy market in jeopardy.
So despite new sanctions from the US and EU it seems like nothing has changed for the better.
Why this matters to you?
This is the worst relationship the US and Russia have had since the Cold War as both countries are digging in their heels on the Ukraine crisis. The issue is it doesn't only affect Ukraine. If things don't improve then this problem could have an immense impact on not only your fuel costs, but the economy at large. Which means while Russia becomes a hermit cutting off their energy supplies, the US will likely have to pick up the slack.
The
telegraph.co.uk writes that the US government may open up it's oil exports again to combat Russia's continued threat of cutting off their oil and natural gas supplies to their neighbors. This means more fuel going out of the US just like this past winter.
The good news is that if you solve your propane needs this year you don't have to deal with any of these potential market complications. It's just better to keep your home tank full and we can help with that.
