Europe looks West to fulfill energy needs in wake of Russia-Ukraine tensions.
While Ukraine-Russia relations continue to deteriorate, the U.S. is making a strong push towards becoming a major exporter of liquefied natural gas in the EU as well as in Ukraine.
Ukraine, at the moment, gets over 50% of their natural gas from the world's number one provider, Russia. Though, if the U.S. plan were to go through they would be helping supplement Ukraine's gas needs along with other European nations.
The U.S.'s plan to invest in Ukraine seems to be the first step in attempting to become an energy powerhouse to compete with the world's number one supplier of natural gas, Russia.
After attempting economic sanctions on Russia to get them to deescalate their military involvement in and around Ukraine, the U.S. and others are planning to invest big in Ukraine to give them further protection. Just like last winter, this could lead to another high-cost shortage crisis as stockpiles would continue to be sent abroad for a higher market price. ( bloomberg.com)
Bad News on the Fracking Boom Front
Bad news coming from the Texas fracking front as shale reserves aren't as abundant and widespread as land investors previously thought. Fuelfix.com is reporting that "the vast majority of good shale reserves are located in a small number of core areas" meaning that these investors will have to spend a lot more time and money in exploratory drilling to find more untapped large reserves.
